Question about iRiver PMP-120 Digital Media Player

PMP-120 Battery Discharges too quickly

I bought two new batterys for the player and charged them to the maxumum (green indication on the player shuts down when this condition is reached). I left the player shut down for 24Hrs and tried activating it afterwards. I received a LOW BATTERY indication followed by a player shut down.
Is there a power configuration I should be aware of that may cause accelerated discharge? should the player be connected to a charging USB port when it is not in use?
Thanx

OK but, in your opinion, is this how the player should behave? as far as I know during shut down a player may sink some tens of micro-amps but at the rate the battery is discharging it would seem there is a malfunction...

Yes,
you will have power through the usb port, so leave it plugged in.
Even when it is shut down it can drain batteries.

It is possible there is a malfunction.
In that case, since this unit is so high tech, I would bring it back to where you bought it and explain.
If it was from circuit city, best buy or walmart etc.,
They may replace it at no charge, even without a warranty.

Boot failure or just nothing?

Boot failure would be the hard disk.
Just nothing would indicate that the system board is dead.

You don't mention using the mains power adaptor.

Will not power up

The battery is probably shot. Check voltage. if it is 0.0 then the battery has shut down internally and either needs to be charged for 48 hours, or replaced. Seems these batteries will shut themselves down to protect themselves and sometimes are never able to revive. You can try and charge it from the USB, but I dont think it does that, you need a 5.0V 2A power supply with the proper tip. I think it is a 3mm + center post. You can also remove the battery and check the pins when it is charging, It shoould show some voltage. Also, I dont think you can run it while charging.

Iriver pmp 120 use the wrong charger

try this. the iriver doesn't boot at times ( wrong charger or using the right charger abroad), unlatch the battery and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. also reset the instrument. hopefully that might work for you.
