Question about Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook

2 Answers

Low volume The volume is very low even in max vol. I tried adjusting both from the volume Icon and ythe keyboard. I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy! The loudest it ever gets is about 5-10% of the max. I have checked all of the solutions listed here and nothing has helped. I've had this problem ever since I bought my laptop. Any help is appreciated!

There could be one of three problems here.
1) You need new sound drivers. You can get them from your laptop's distributor's website.
2) Your speaker or head phones that you are using are either blown or do not support the amount of watts the sound chip produces.
3) The sound chip on your laptop is bad and you are going to either have to take it to a computer repair shop or send it out to a repair service to replace it.

Vista updates cause problems like this you may have to download the latest Vista driver for your sound card from the Acer site

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. 2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Scrunch\CodecPack\MSDVDNote If you cannot locate the registry subkey, go to step 3 to create the registry subkey. If you can locate the registry subkey, go to step 6. 3. Right-click the Microsoft registry subkey, point to New, click Key, type Scrunch, and then press ENTER. 4. Right-click the Scrunch registry subkey, point to New, click Key, type CodecPack, and then press ENTER. 5. Right-click the CodecPack registry subkey, point to New, click Key, type MSDVD, and then press ENTER. 6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. 7. In the details pane, type the following new value, dolby_rf_on, and then press ENTER. 8. Right-click dolby_rf_on, and then click Modify. 9. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, under Base, click Decimal. 10. In the Value data box, type the value 1, and then click OK.

Hello, You can increase the volume of your laptop by, first check the speaker and headphone icon whether it is set to 100%.You can see it in the system tray or by the right hand side at the bottom of your screen or at the control panel, click on SOUND and increase the volume. Note the software you are using like window media center, VLC player, real player and the likes should also be increase to maximum, then if your computer has an external control for the volume, make sure you increase it to the maximum. Volume settings at max but sound very low

If you're playing a prepacked CD or DVD and the sound is below normal then there's something wrong with the computer. I would let the manufacturer take a look at it. If these are CD's or DVD's you made, then I'd try them in another CPU first.

I would venture a guess (not knowing anything about your particular model) there is one of two volume controls on the unit itself:

- Part of the keyboard, generally bearing a speaker insignia of some kind. If it's part of another key (ex. the up/down arrows) you may need to hold the Fn key down while simultaneously pressing the aforementioned keys.

- Somewhere along the sides or the front, a rotary device of sorts. Something like you might find on a walkman or discman to adjust the volume.

If not either of those then perhaps a hardware issue of some kind.

Low volume

> Open Control Panel
> Sound Properties
> Speaker Properties
> Enhancements

Loudness Equalization : on

Equalizer: Choose one (Jazz seems to be loudest setting but sounds of hallway effect so I use powerful for clarity.)

This has more than doubled the level of volume on my acer 5570.
