Prints grey not black

Ever since I connected my Epson Stylus cx4200 printer to my i book G5, my printer prints everything with a grey tinge. Blacks are not black but light gray and colors come out, but again they're gray-ish. Am I using the wrong driver? My ink cartridges are new, I replaced them when I connected the printer to my ibook. Any help would be great!!

I solved this problem but probably not what the printer manufacturer would recommend! The reason you are just getting grey is that the black ink cartridge is either empty or dried out from non use and only the color cartridge is working. I had the same problem after being away for 5 months. I put the printer cartridge in a bowl of warm water to disolve the dried out ink on the print pad. I dried off the cartridge with a soft cloth and then it worked perfectly.

If the printing preference is on "draft", it will print everything on light color or grey. check the printing preference, choose text or image instead of draft.

My Epson 1400 is printing blacks green. After gray 40 % all my gray and black is coming out green. what can I do to solve that, and please don't tell me to chane my printer I just boughted it 4 months ago.

The printer is using your color cartridge to print black and greys.
The black cartridge must be empty and will need to be replaced.
The color cartridge has depleted one of the primary colors required
to print black.
Both cartridges will need to be replaced

My Epson Stylus CX4200 will not print because my Cyan ink is out. I tried printing in black and white only but still won't print because of the one empty cartridge. Is there any way I can still print...

I have a CX4800 and after clicking Print, I click Properties, then check Black ink only (is this how you are printing black and white - or is your document black and white)
If you haven't tried this option - it is worth a shot.

My Epson R1800 prints grey and not black for text. It also prints pictures faded and not bright. I have adjusted the settings in printer set up to highest quality. I have changed the ink cartridges.

This isn't a solution, merely an echoing of the problem. I'm using it with a Mac and have had the problem since using it with a Mac as opposed to a PC. Did you or anyone ever get a definitive answer on this? It's driving me crazy!

Can i print without color catridges

Hi,

you do need both cartridges in and with ink or the printer will not print to prevent damage to the print heads from running dry. The printer normally uses a small amount of coloured ink to "tone" blacks but if you leave it set to Black only it won't do this and in the future you should only have to replace the black cartridge.

Epson pro 4800 r prints grey not blank and says to set cartridge

I am having the same problem If anyone has an answer or whether judy you have found an answer.

If I do a greyscale strip to print my black is coming out as a dark grey. the bead off of the greyscale strip would appear that the pbk photo black is not actually printing.

This has been a problem for a few months but as I haven't been doing much printing didn't notice it just thought something was odd. Now I look at previous prints and the blacks are black I print it out now and it is a dark dark grey. Nothing has changed in my profiles or my workflow. I have tried hours of profile paper printing option changes and workflow adjustments but nothing changes, If I print 100 percent black from a file it comes out 95% grey I have tried it from three computers to clarify. It appears is a 4800 problem.
Perhaps it is not recognising that it is a PB catridge.

I have no idea.
I have tried adjusting the settings from the printer but there is no option to clarify catridge from the printer.
This is odd, if anyone has any idea.

I have a epson stylus photo r200 do i need all colors to print just black and white?

HI-

Yes you need all the ink cartridges filled or they should have ink in it. That's one feature of epson printer to prevent air to clog nozzles.

Hope this helps

My epsonstylus cx4200 wont print with black ink.

Please ensure that you have removed (Completely) all yellow tape on the top of the cartridge. If it is not completely removed a vacuum can form preventing the flow of ink.

Run a few cleaning cycles.

Try a local print test...

As for thr G4 sorry but I can help you except to power off all devices, power up and reboot.
