Press the combination keys Fn+F... key that switches on LCD or external monitor. If that solution does not work...it means that your video card chip is dead.

Try this first, after you plug in that external monitor, press Fn key and F8, That should transfer the image to the external monitor, to double check the LCD,
try to run the diagnostics by pressing FN key + POWER button while the computer is off, that will
display colors on the screen and your will hear a single beep. If you see that then your LCD is good.
And for the external monitor if it really doesn't work
and the monitor is working with other source,
Then you'll end up replacing the video card.

Whited out computer screen

What can you do if the laptop LCD screen turned completely white?

1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard (I assume the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard).

Here's an example of a laptop with white screen.

When you turn on the laptop, it starts but the image on the screen is completely white right from the beginning.

Most likely you still can use the laptop with an external monitor.

Just connect the monitor to the VGA port on the back or side of your laptop and then switch the video output from internal to external mode.

On Toshiba laptops you can toggle between internal and external screens using Fn+F5 keys. Hold down Fn and press on F5 until you get video on the external monitor.
On IBM laptops use Fn+F7.
On HP laptops use Fn+F4.

It's possible that you have to use a different key combination on your laptop but you get the idea.

On some laptops, in order to be able to use the external monitor, you have to connect it to the laptop and then restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop.

In some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.

If you want to check this connection, you'll have to take apart the display panel because the connector is located on the back side of the LCD screen.

These laptop service manuals and disassembly instructions may be useful.

Always check the video cable connection first. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem.

If reconnecting the video cable doesn't help, most likely you have a problem either with the LCD screen or with the motherboard.

The best way to find out witch one is causing the problem is testing the laptop with another working LCD screen.

you will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection

click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system

you should see a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system

when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes

or click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to monitors right click select scan for hardware changes

if you can get an extended desktop your monitor is faulty

if you cant get an exended desktop

hope it helps

Colors are messed up

First try unplugging the video cable from both ends and then plugging it back in. Make sure the connections are secured.
If this doesn't fix it then try replacing the video cable all together, make sure the connections are secure.
If these two solutions do not work then try altering the colors in the menu of the monitor.
If you still are unable to correct the colors then you may have a faulty monitor and it will need to be replaced. Be sure to check your warranty status before purchasing a replacement because many monitors carry a 3 year warranty.

My acer monitor p191w will turn on acer logo comes on goes black then a screen comes out saying no signal then turns of light turns yellow ...tried restarting monitor nothing

Connect the monitor to a different computer, to see if the monitor works at all.

Connect a different monitor to your computer, to see if your computer really is "sending" a video-signal through the "data" cable. If not, then either the data-cable or the video-card inside the computer is faulty.

The computer monitor viewing screen continues to flicker and change color tints at random moments. It makes it difficult to view the monitor screen clearly. I would like to know how to solve this problem...

have you made sure the video cable is plugged into the screen and the back of the computer correctly. You could also try a new video cable, because the problem may be that the wires inside the video cable have frayed. If that doesn't fix the problem you could try using a different monitor and see if you can replicate the same problem with a different monitor, if you can, the computer may have a problem with the graphics card. If you can't replicate the problem with a different monitor, it seems as though your northgate innovations monitor has developed an internal fault, if the monitor is within warranty try and get a free repair or get it replaced (if you have the receipt.

I have lg m198wdp monitor tv.problem is white screen

When does it happen?
During Self test? Try this by unplugging the cable that connects to your tower and see if the self test runs. if it does, then your monitor still works. If it doesn't you might need to replace your LCD
During BIOS? If it works then your monitor still works. If it doesn't you might need to replace your LCD
During Windows? then you might need to adjust your display properties or reinstall your video card drivers.

My laptop monitor will not turn on. It started when the computer froze and I tried control alt delete and when that didn't work I turned it off. then when I turned it back on the monitor did not work....

A couple of things could be wrong:
Your LCD screen could be going bad (probably not)
The inverter that powers the screen could be going bad (possibly)
Your video card may be going bad (possibly)
Here's what to do: hook up an external monitor to the computer and see if that works. You'll need to direct the video to the other monitor with the Fn-special function key combo that lets you view your LCD or external monitor--there is an icon on the special function key that shows 2 monitors.
If that works all the time, then you've just shown the video is good. Now you will need to check the video connections inside of the computer. You could have a loose wire, which seems likely. Then it will be time to replace the inverter that sits just below the LCD screen.
An additional suggestion--heat could have caused this, so while you have the case open, blow out all the spaces so you are assured of adequate cooling.

When I power on my computer my monitor screen goes a solid whitish gray. worked fine yesterday, and then today nothing.

Laptop LCD screen turned completely white
What can you do if the laptop LCD screen turned completely white? From my experience I can tell that this problem may be related to the following:
1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen.
2. Defective LCD screen.
3. Defective motherboard (I assume the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard).

When you turn on the laptop, it starts but the image on the screen is completely white right from the beginning.

On some laptops, in order to be able to use the external monitor, you have to connect it to the laptop and then restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop.
I noticed that in some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. If you want to check this connection, you’ll have to take apart the display panel because the connector is located on the back side of the LCD screen.

The best way to find out which one is causing the problem is testing the laptop with another working LCD screen. Without this test you’ll have to guess because as I mentioned before this could either bad motherboard or bad LCD screen.
You’ll have to disconnect the video cable from the LCD screen and the inverter board. After that you connect another working screen and test video.
The original screen is white but my test screen works normal and I can see the image. After this test I can tell that the problem must be related to the screen.
After I assembled everything back together and connected the original LCD, it’s still white.
CONCLUSION.
In my case this problem is related to the LCD screen and it has to be replaced.

My computer is on, but the sreen remains black

What type of monitor is it, a CRT or LCD?
Have you checked the video cable to see if it is firmly connected?
To test the video card, connect another monitor to the computer.
If another monitor works then the video card is OK and the original monitor is faulty.
If the faulty CRT monitor is dead, then replace it, it most likely not worth repairing.
If the faulty monitor is a LCD screen and the power LED is on but the screen is black and you can see a dim image on the screen when you view it at a sharp angle, then most likely it is a back-light problem. It could be a faulty inverter board or a faulty CCFL lamp.

Black screen when turn on the computer

The problem could be a loose video cable/connector.
Reseat the video cable or the connector that connects to the motherboard.
To check if the video card is faulty, connect an external monitor to the video port on the HP, power up the external monitor first, then bootup the laptop. The video will automatically switch to the external monitor and if you see a normal image then the video card is OK and the fault is the LCD screen/video connector.
If you see a faint image when you view the LCD screen at a sharp angle, then the fault could be the CCFL lamp or the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp.
