What operating system are you using? Is this a desktop or a laptop?

Have you checked your Power Saving settings?

I'm guessing just from what you said that you need to check/change your Power Options properties.

If you are using XP, go to the Start Menu, select Control Panel. Once in Control Panel look on the left hand side and switch to Classic View. Select the Power Options icon, then change the settings under the Power Schemes Tab. I have mine set to Always On and then the setting under that are all set to Never.

If you are using a different operating system, let me know what you are using and I'll post the solution for that operating system.

Good luck!

Check you power settings. Depending on your operating system there are different ways of going about this. Assuming that you have Windows XP, Right click on you desktop and select properties. Select the Screen Saver tab, then there should be a button about power saving, click that button. Check those settings, they deal with what happens upon your computer going idle.

When I leave my computer, I come back to a blue screen with an hour glass. I cannot do anything except manually shut down the computer.

Assuming that you are not doing anything with the computer and leaving it idle (not running any programs besides background programs such as anti-virus) you may want to check your power connections. Usually when a computer freeze like that is caused by a power flux somewhere. It could be the power supply that is turning faulty due to a bad capacitor. May want to try it out with a good surge protector or a different outlet first before looking into the power supply.

Im sorry about your situation.

Does the computer turn on??
If the computer turns on do you hear or can you see the fan working??

If the computer turns on does it stay on or does it shut down after a few minutes??

it is possible that one of the three are going out on the computer, motherboard, harddrive, power supply, only a computer tech could tell which one.

Stays on for less than 60 seconds

Blow out the computer with canned air. If the heatsink is full of dust then its overheating. Dont leave it on over night either.

Try removing the battery from the motherboard if its not soldered and leave it for an hour then out it back in, that might reset you bios and fix your problem.

Computer shuts down

Hi,     I think you might have a cooling issue with the CPU (Main Chip). If the CPU is getting Hot it will shut the system down preventing damage. Check the  inside of the case and be sure that the fan for the CPU is functioning. You might also have your power supply checked as well...

most likely it was the psu. You can actually test it yourself by buying a psu tester made by Antec that you should be able to buy in stores. It's a cheaper alternative to buying a PSU and just hoping that was the problem.
