When mechanism pops out to eject, wait until it completly comes out, deattache battery immediately, and Pull lever as per below mentioned picture. Cassette door will be open and place cassette. Close it and attache the battery. Camera is ready to Record or Playback.

I have a Sony Handy cam DCR-HC30. When i put a cassette in, it says (reinsert the cassette).

-make sure that your tape is clean and dry
-clean the tape head inside the tape deck if you have a video head tape cleaner
*tape head: the one that reads the tape inside the camcorder.its the metal thing at the bottom inside the tape deck.
-or you can use a soft and dry Q-tip to clean it(dont use any liquid cleaners)
*or if confused where the tape head is....just clean all metal parts inside the tape deck and make sure you do it lightly with a soft dry Q-tip.

Hi there I am getting code c31-23 can you please

This is one of the most common problems on sony camcorders. It is caused by the loosening or loss of the rubber roller inside the tape drive mechanism. Try tapping the top of the cam when the tape is inside. If this doesnt work, open the tape deck and look inside to see if you can spot a single rubber roller inside. If not, then the roller has worked itself loose or gone AWOL missing..:(( However, fear not...the solution for this is to go to an office supply store and obtain one of those compressed air cans used for dusting off keyboards and such. Amazingly, the plastic tip on the compressed air can (where the air comes out) can be used as a replacement for this rubber roller. It fits the metal spindle that formerly held the roller perfectly and allows the cam to function without the rubber roller and without the dreaded C31:23 "your camera is dead and useless and will no longer function" evil Sony message... The tape carrage wont load the tapes but it will go into the load position without.

I have a sony cam myself. If the cam is empty, you open the outer door(swings out), and the load/unload mechanism rises up and pops open allowing tape insertion. When a cassette is placed into the mechanism, you press where it says "push" and then the drive pulls the tape down and into the unit. Then the outer door is closed and you're ready to tape. IF YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE TAPE WHILE IT'S BEING PULLED INTO THE UNIT IT WILL STRIP GEARS INSIDE. The gears are made of nylon to prevent serious damage to motors and other circuitry. This transport setup cannot be forced at all. If any type of mis-alignment occurs, the mechanism is supposed to stop and back up--allowing the problem to be corrected. If it is damaged, the cam must be repaired. There is critical timing involved in replacing the tape carriage.---Rick

Cassette won't eject!

I have had this problem too. I got it to open by pressing my hand against the tape mechanism then slightly closing the lid and re-opening it. This doesn't always work the first time.Once it is open run a tape head cleaner and it should fix it for a while.

Yes i had the same problem ...
1.Put the cassette as far as it allows... and move the cassette left and right slightly twisting , and you will activate the mechanism
2.SOON the mechanism gets fully out immediately!!!! remove the battery
3.CLEAN contacts (I'm looking right now on the internet to find where the hell sensors-contacts are)
4.PREY that it works :-)

CCD-TRV308 - TAPE DOOR WON'T OPEN

depends where the tape is located if it's still wrapped around the head i would recommend taking it in if it's inside the cassette you can have to take the door off and see if it pops out.
Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.

My Cassette Tape Deck is Jammed Open - Help!

Glad to hear that you got the unit working. One thing you might want to do now that you resolved the jammed problem, to avoid future problems, is with the cassette deck open, look in to the opening and check all the metal parts for any signs of being bent or twisted, even slightly. There is a reason that the door has a spot marked "push door shut here". Pushing it anywhere else will usually bend something. It may be working now but who knows. Usually when you force the cassette mechanisms on the little camcorders you bend something and sooner or later it will come back to haunt you. Now you can open and close it so it would be an easier fix. If you find anything bent you will need to carefully straighten it. Believe me, a little time spent now will save alot of grief later. Perhaps your father-in-law would have the skills to check it and straighten any bent parts. Even if you don't find any problems you will at least have peace of mind knowing that everything is OK. Good luck.
