I had this issue with a GL2 at work recently, neither the menu nor the manual / auto focus would activate after pushing their respective buttons.  No physical damage.
It could have been a coincidence but the problem fixed itself after removing and re-inserting the 3v watch battery on the side.  Very weird.  I had tried just about everything else first.
It was a brand new camera, had only seen minimal use up 'til that point.  It's been behaving since.

What do you mean you lost the menu? Can you not see it? Push the button that says EV display.

I have to reset date time etc everytime i turn camera on

If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date battery charge is low and the date and time settings have been lost. Please purchase a lithium coin battery (CR1220) and replace it as follows.

1. Confirm that the camera power is turned off.
2. Slide the memory card slot / battery cover lock and open the cover.
3. Hook your nail onto the date battery holder and lightly pull up.
4. Remove the battery holder in the direction indicated by the arrow. a570isbackupbatremove.gif 5. Remove the battery by pulling it up in the direction indicated by the arrow.
a570isbackupbat.gif 6. Insert a new battery with the (-) side facing up.
7. Replace the battery holder and close the memory card slot / battery cover.
8. When the Date/Time menu appears set the date and time.

Date/time issue on Canon EOS 350D

I was wondering the same when I first got my EOS. Learned later that the digital pictures do not have date/time stamp on the front of the photos like film cameras' photos. Details of digital photos are stored digitally in each image file's EXIF.

If you want to print photos showing the date/time, some software including Zoombrowser EX can do that. In Zoombrowser, select the photos you want to print. In Step 2 (Printer & Layout Settings), in the bottom left, you can choose Date and/or Time and even the colour of the font.

Cbnnot close camera after unloading film

Unless you are sure it is broken, it may not need repair. Have you looked in the manual ? Should repair be necessary, the price will probably be more than the cost of a more up-to-date replacement
