My scanner not pickin up

Hi Terry,

You forgot to post the Make & Model of your radio scanner, as they're not all the same.

I'll use generic terms for your (unknown) radio scanner.

Have you programmed any frequencies into your scanner? If not, there's the reason for no reception.

You are required to program frequencies into your radio scanner, before it will receive anything.

If you have programmed your favourite frequencies, did you check to see if they are applicable to your area/location?, If so, then after programming, did you press the L/O key? If so you have locked out your frequency(s) from scan mode. To undo this you will need to press the Mon/Hold key during scan made, this will stop the scanner from scanning, and you can now go through each programmed channel and press L/O key so that L/O icion on the display is out, once you've completed this task, you should be able to scan and when a transmission is received, the unit will stop scanning during the transmission.

I hope that I have assisted you.

Regards,
Peter

Your scanner is a basic 10-channel "oldie" and it's fairly simple to program and operate. To enter/program a known frequency:

- Power the scanner On
- Press MANUAL to stop scanning
- Press MANUAL repeatedly to advance to the channel that you wish to program
- Enter the desired frequency, including the decimal point (e.g., 156.225).
- Press E to enter the frequency into memory

Press the MANUAL key to advance through the channels, and press SCAN when you're ready to listen.

My pro-82 scanner scans threw all channels but will not pick up any frequencies?

To verify that the scanner is working properly, program one or more of the weather frequencies(162.4, 162.425, 162.45, 162,475, 162.5, 162.525, 162.55, 161.65, 161.775, 163.275) into memory and then scan. NOTE: Not all frequencies are in use in all areas, so you may need to try several. If you receive the weather broadcasts, then you may need to adjust the squelch setting on your scanner to receive local signals. You also need to verify that the frequencies programmed into the scanner are valid, active frequencies in your area. For a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, and a lot of other useful scanning information, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

If the scanner fails to receive the weather broadcasts, you need to check the antenna connections inside the unit and/or have the scanner checked/repaired by a qualified technician.

How to tell what the buttons do?

The HOLD key lets you freeze the scanner on an active channel. For instance, if the scanner stops on channel 3, and there's a lot of action there. you can press HOLD to lock the scanner on that channel until you press the SCAN key. Repeatedly pressing the HOLD key will manually advance the selected channel.

SCAN releases a HOLD asnd will also take the unit out of PROGRAM or SEARCH modes and start it scanning the frequencies that you've programmed.

FUNCTION selects the secondary (lower) function of a key. For example, pressing FUNCTION and then the E (ENTER) key will switch the scanner to Pgm (Programming) mode - which lets you enter and store frequencies into the unit's memory so that you can scan them later.

All keyboard functions are explained in detail in the scanner operating manual, which you can download/print here:
