It could mean that the dvd is scratched and unreadable or in case of copied or bootleg DVDs it won't read them

Not all PS3s are able to play PS2 games - they started removing that functionality when they came out with the 60GB model. So if you have a relatively new PS3 (A year old or so), that's likely the reason.

I am sorry but the voltage surge, which must have occured after having switched off the protector has most probably blown or fried the High Voltage circuitry which makes the tube function. It could be that both horizontal & vertical control IC's are damaged. If the picture tube is still OK then its worth repairing. However if the picture tube is gone then better to buy a new diplay unit after checking up the rest of the equipment that a playstation consists off......................................sodeep

Press and Hold your PS3 power button for at least 6 seconds and see if it beeps twice.... Make sure you have your composite jacks(Red, White, Yellow) hooked up to your PS3 and TV in order to see diplay and hear sound.
This will reset your PS3, but you will still keep all your data!

try connecting A/V rca cable first. go to ur diplay settings and then to video output settings in it select av multi. don't use HDMI settings let it automatically ask u when u plug in hdmi cable. Then switch to HDMI cable. I had a problem like this before with a ps3 that i had bought used. hdmi was set up and it took forever to set it up with rca cords. took many times power on and offs and unplugging video cords for it to reset. . not sure. Now when u plug in your hdmi on any tv it should automatically set up. and you have settings for a/v as backup. the other thing is it could be the just the port or cable.

it might work if you turn on your game, then take out your hdmi cable for a few seconds, then put it back in.

I think you have to change the settings in your HD box. Look on the diplay window of your HD box, if it says 480 there, thats where you need to change it so it will change then on your TV.

a DVI Connection does not transmit sound, so you will need a seperate audio cable. Have you changed the settings in the ps3 and your tv's input to HD signal or 720 DPI, do not choose 1080i or 1080P as DVI does not support those high settings.
