WHEN DISC IS INSERTED THE CONSOLE DOES NOT SEEM TO RECOGNISE IT
THE X BOX IS JUST OVER A YEAR OLD
POSSIBLE SUGGESTIONS....DIRTY LASER
DOES IT JUST NEED A CLEAN?

Re: X BOX 360 PROBLEM
I would try cleaning it first. The laser going bad is a pretty common issue with the drives, since it's a Hitachi that spindle motor could be all gunked up with dirt as well and cause that issue also.
if ya have a Hitachi, if it's a Samsung it could just be the laser. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox_dvd_repair.htm First Clean the lens: http://www.ehow.com/how_2036275_clean-lens-dvd.html

this is the result that is gotten when a xbox 360 game disc is inserted into a console or sytem that doesn't recognise the disc. you see as a matter of fact, the cd might seem like a normal dvd disc but they usualloy have some type of special encoding to go with them and this prevents just any cd drove from loading them. you might have been given a xbox 360 with an unofficial xbox 360 cd drive. the best way to go abouth this is by sending it to a repairer and he should fix it. it might require flashing the drive or on the other hand, it might just need a complete replacement of the drive hope this helped you? please rate
Hello! if the console behaves as if there is no disc present in the disc tray, then most likely the drive was not able to detect the media inserted due to the lens was mis aligned. Becaus of the spinning motion of the drive it creates vibration because of these moving parts. It is a risk tearing down the system and re-aligning the lens, you can call Microsoft Xbox Support for it to be fixed and its $159if it's out of warranty.
If your xbox box it's new I would take it back and get another one, becase you do probable have problems with your dvd drive and it will keep scratching the games. the laser on the drive doesn't work as hard when playing a music cd than when it plays a game or a dvd.
If you don't want to take it back, then play a couple dvds and if it reads then fine then you could try again. it shiudn't take more than ten second to read a game so if its taking longer just get it out.
