Already tried that - no help

  • John Bulcroft Feb 26, 2008

OK, all you experts - read carefully all the way through before replying. First of all, any solution must enable me to resume using my ipod nano and itunes in the normal manner. No hacks, work-arounds, direct transfer to PC, etc. Here is problem in simplest form based on many tries to solve this. I have deleted everything except ONE podcast or song in itunes and my nano appears to sync with itunes. I have tried it automatically and manually. The ONE item appears listed on the nano when viewed in itunes. If it was transferred automatically it appears grayed out. If I transferred it manually it appears normal. If in manual mode I can remove the item from nano when in itunes and then resync to put it back. Here is the problem: When the nano is removed from itunes the item can not be found, displayed or played. It seems to exist when viewing in itunes but is hidden, or has disappeared once no longer connected to itunes. I have tried all 5 "Rs" suggested by apple. I have rebooted computer, I have reinstalled itunes, I have restored, etc. Each time i reconnect to itunes, even if i have NOT just restored the itunes program asks tio verify the nano. All software is latest. This ipod worked fine and then suddenly went into this state. Any Apple experts out there?

Evidently you didn't read this: First of all, any solution must enable me to resume using my ipod nano and itunes in the normal manner. No hacks, work-arounds, direct transfer to PC, etc.

Sorry, not what I am seeking

  • John Bulcroft Feb 26, 2008

I know that most of it is free but I paid up my $9.99 so I thought one of you would know what was happening and pick up a few bucks in return. Apple will charge $79 to repair. No offense meant to anyone but I have approached this problem seriously and done a fair amount of troubleshooting myself. Maybe this one is not solvable. In that case, I have no idea who gets my money but i would vote for you pishta68 since you have a sense of humor

In Itunes, go to preferences and turn OFF autosync, your library will now be normal, but you will need to manually move songs over, a better way to go anyway, much more control

You obviously have a very unique problem. I have 1 rock solid suggestion. Take it down to the Apple store and shout "I need help with my Nano!". I guarantee you will have more than one of the Apple lurkers that hang out in Apple stores like they are Starbucks come up to you and give you loads of advice on your Nano, you might even get an employee to help. This is a free board and people enjoy helping others but only to an extent. Good luck and enlighten all of us when you find an answer.

Well, I dont know who got your money, it sure wasnt me! I thought you paid up if it was solved within 2 hours or something like that and you would have to tell fixya that X solved the problem and X deserves the moolah. I just pass time here, not looking to make a buck. I got a bunch of "thanks, that helped" or FixYa! but not a penny.....

Hi,

Here are few steps you can try:

Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.

Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.

Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.
Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page 47

Goodluck..

Hi.

Please do try changing the USB access option from ur nano / ipod

When the access type is 'MSC', the files will be directly accessible to ur PC as a separate drive

Go to settings/Setup -> USB

(I've encountered similar problems with sansa, and this solves it)

This way, u can delete and add files as u wish

bye

take care

Did I solve ur problem?

:)

Also have a look at the following webpage
(instead of MSC, UMS is also OK)

    http://www.cnet.com.au/mp3players/mp3pla...

    bye

Also, please do try removing the autosync option as said by pishta68

  • Chintu-KPV
    Chintu-KPV Feb 25, 2008

Also don't forget to format the drive, after connecting in UMS / MSC mode, as the 'file missing' occurs normally due to data corruption to (bcos of MTP access having a programmable IO access only to files)

How to down load a song to my appleipod nano 2gb?

To download songs to iPod nano: m Simply connect iPod nano to your computer. If iPod nano is set to update automatically, the download begins. Important: The first time you connect iPod nano to a computer, a message asks if you want to transfer songs automatically. If you accept, all songs, audiobooks, and other items are deleted from iPod nano and replaced with the songs and other items from that computer. If you don’t accept, you can still download songs to iPod nano manually without deleting any of the songs already on iPod nano. While music is being downloaded from your computer to iPod nano, the iTunes status window shows progress, and the iPod nano icon in the Source list flashes red. When the download is complete, a message in iTunes says “iPod update is complete.” If you set iTunes to download music manually, you can reset it later to update iPod nano automatically. For more information, see “Updating iPod nano Manually” on page 22. To reset iTunes to update iPod nano automatically with all songs and playlists: 1 Open iTunes and select iPod nano in the Source list. 2 Click the Options button and click Music. 3 Select “Automatically update all songs and playlists.” The download begins automatically.
if you need further assistance please let me know. Thanks, MIDWEst-tek

You just need to reset it, hold down the middle button and the "Menu" button for about 7-8 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
Hope this helps!

While charging ipod on pc songs are no longer on IPOD

When your iPod is connected and brings up itunes, make sure that you have selected the songs you want from the library where they should be saved and dragged them into your playlist folder (located on the left side of the itunes screen). Then disconnect properly using the eject button, also on the left side of the itunes screen.

Ipod nano not show (not play) songs

iTunes includes several options to automatically or manually sync videos to your iPod classic, iPod nano (3rd generation), or iPod (5th generation). Read this article to learn more about these two methods.
Products Affected iTunes, iPod nano (3rd generation), iPod classic, iPod (5th generation)
Syncing videos automatically Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes. Select your iPod in the DEVICES section of the iTunes Source list.

In the main iTunes browser window, select the Music tab. Select the checkbox labeled "Sync music" and verify that the "Include music videos" checkbox is also selected. You have the option to sync all songs and playlists or selected playlists.

Movies can be automatically synced to iPod. Select the Movies tab and select the option to sync all movies, selected movies, or a certain number recent unwatched movies.

TV Shows can be automatically synced to iPod. Select the TV Shows tab and select the option to sync all TV shows or selected ones. You can also determine which episodes are synced based on if they are recent or unwatched.

Video Podcasts can be automatically synced to iPod. Select the Podcasts tab select the option to sync all podcasts or selected ones. You can also determine which episodes are synced based on if they are recent, new or unplayed.

Click Apply and iTunes will begin syncing the content you've selected to your iPod. Tip: You can use the capacity bar at the bottom of the iPod settings window to determine how much free space is available. The size of a playlist can be determined by selecting it and looking at the bottom of the iTunes window.

The iTunes LCD will display the sync progress and notify you when the iPod sync is complete.

To disconnect your iPod, select it in the Source list and click the eject icon.
Syncing videos manually If your prefer not to automatically sync video content to your iPod, you can setup manual syncing.
Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes. Select your iPod in the DEVICES section of the iTunes Source list.

In the main iTunes browser window, select the Summary tab. Select the "Manually manage music and videos" option. This will deselect the automatic sync settings for the Music, Movies, and TV Shows tabs. Automatic syncing for Podcasts, Photos, Contacts, and Games can be individually disabled by selecting each of those tabs. Note: When manually managing iPod, disk use is enabled and iPod must always be manually ejected in iTunes before disconnecting.

Click Apply. To manually add music videos, movies or TV shows to your iPod, choose one of these categories under LIBRARY in the Source list. Select and drag items you want (to choose multiple items, Command-click items on a Mac or Control-click items in Windows), then drag them onto your iPod icon in the Source list. To add a playlist, select it in the Source list and drag it onto your iPod in the same ways as a video or song.

When you are ready disconnect your iPod, select it in the Source list and click the eject icon.

Synching Windows Media Player 11 files over to the Apple Ipod Nano

Unless your espisodes are in Mpeg 4 (MP4) format they will not work on your Nano.

You have to use ITunes to put anything into your IPod to play it back properly.
