Question about Toshiba Portege 4010 Notebook
Help, i've just bought this model second hand but it didn't come with an instruction manual and apparently I've got to register this model before I can aquire the internet! How do I go about this and can you explain this in simpleton terms please!
Is it asking you to register your version of that Operating System or is it asking you to register the Computer itself with the manufacturer?
Like Nitrotrike states, you can just click on the Internet Explorer Icon and get to the web, if you have an internet providor.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

If you can't recall your user name, you can either look in the /Users folder (the directories are named by user), or run "niutil -list . /users".
Also, on older systems the /etc/rc script isn't available, apparently. If that second step fails, try mounting and starting the base services manually:
I've had to do this a couple of times for friends when they've bought a second hand machine, and once when I had a momentary brain lapse and forgot my own password. Works like a charm.
