Hello, have a JVE TV/VCR combo that the TV works great. The VCR will accept a tape and eject it fine but won't run it for playback. It will jog the tape a little when you push the FF & REW buttons but that is all. I also don't have a remote for this TV and don't know if not being able to access the menue would have any thing to do with it. Do you have any sauggestions on what I might do? Thanks!!!!!!!
Based on your description, I would suspect that the tape is not fully engaging/wrapping itself around the video head. This is a common issue with VCRs. This is caused by a slipping belt that drives the gears for the spreader arms. The belt is normally located top right of the mechanism/assembly and can be anywhere between 3-4 cm. You need to open the unit, remove the belt and purchase a replacement. The slipping belt would serve "as per sample".
This of course would require that you be a bit familiar with electromechanical components, a bit of electronics and use of common tools. Considering that it might be a bit tricky being a combo unit, perhaps seeking the services of a qualified professional would be your safest bet.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
