Question about Texas Instruments (97988030001) Motherboard

Motherboard bad video

Hello,

I have a Gatway Model # LPMINI-Desktop P55C-200, Lot # 000 90107078, Serail # 000 901 131, MFG Date = 1/23/98, with Texas Instruments (I think) motherboard # MBDSAC151AAWW. Motherbaord also had follwing numbers:
PB673788-01
5197
WASM22
00019947
MO2A8016
4000282

The built in ATI Rage 3D video appears to be malfunctioning. I would like to plug in another video card in the spare PCI slot, but there must be a jumper or something to tell the motherboard to disable the built in video and use the video card in the PCI slot, but I have no documentation and find no text on the motherboard to instruct me what to do. Can you provide documentation or instructions how to disable built in video and use the PCI Video Card?

Thanks,
MDB

    Thanks IZen,

I'll try editing the settings in the Bios. However, you stated this shouldn't be necessary in order to use the PCI video card?

When I plugged in the known good video card the monitor did not show anything. I used two known good monitors, but nothing appeared. I assumed the motherboard was still trying to use the on board video chips and thus the "How to disable" question.

I'll try the Bios settings, but if it is not necessary to disable the on board video chip, then why should the Bios setting make a difference and if changing the Bios doesn't make a difference, then what?

    Thanks for your advice.

    Best Regards,

You don't need to disable the on board video chip to use the PCI video card. However, if you do have a problem that relates to disabling the on board video chip, you can edit those settings in the BIOS.

Your new video card might be bad. Or you just might need to reseat your new card, might have a bad connection. Not sure how new your BIOS is? You might need to change a setting in your BIOS to stop using the on-board video.

My BIOS auto detected my video card, but your BIOS might not be that up-to-date.
