I was trying to connect a new laptop to our home wireless network via wrt54g. on installing our old linksys disc into the new laptop it kept sayin not connected to the internet even though it was hardwired I disconnected the ethernet and reconnected that wire to our main computer as usual. the laptop was just sitting there and all of a sudden asked for our ssid and password so I entered linksys_ses_ and our password It guided me through a couple of steps and then asked to reset the computer and then reset the router. now we have no internet for all our computers including the new laptop and our program for linksys is "expired" for our router. Linksys won't support it How can we restore our router and where can we download a program to work the router

When you reset the router, it will come back to the factory settings. You will need to set up the router again.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Your mistake was to run the CD on the laptop. When a router is working and computers are using it NO CDS ARE EVER NEEDED. Your laptop will connect to it just using what is already in the computer.
When you go to starbucks and use the internet they don't give you a CD to install do they - they just give you a password - that is all you need. The fact that you are hard-wired means you don't even need a password.

WPS button

I have a WRT54G router and there is no WPS button.

This is a cut and paste from Cisco engineer:
Wi-Fi Protected Setup or WPS is a somewhat new feature on most routers. However, I believe that the WRT54g was release prior to this feature. The installation disc for your wireless adapter is trying to circumvent network discovery and the process of entering a wireless password by using the WPS feature. Without using the installation disc to setup the adapter should still be able to connect to your Wi-FI network. Only use the disc to install the drivers for your wireless card and the wireless access utility. After you have done this:
1.Open the wireless utility and you should see available networks
2.Select your Wi-Fi network
3.If the network is open (not password proctected) you should be connected immediately
4.If the network is secured (password protected) then you will prompted to enter your password or preshared key
5.After entering the key you should be granted access to the network

How to replace linksys-g home router with linksys e3000

Use the laptop with a network cable to check connection. Just connect the NEW? e3000 to the ISP modem. It should work right from the start. If the e3000 is not new, there is a reset in the back.Hold it till it cycles.

The wireless on the laptop should pick up the new router as a new network.

You can even go further back by cycling the ISP modem as well.

Have 2 computer's in home, on will link t network, other will not even bring up network when attemptingto get on internet via router

Hello,

Usually under these circumstances, one of your computers may not have a compatible wireless network card. An example would be if your computer has a Wireless G Network Card and your router is Wireless N, you might run into problems. You can try reinstalling the drivers for your Network Card. You can also go to the Linksys website and install the installation utility to set up the connection from scratch again.

The router itself is fine, it's the wireless card in your computer that isn't finding the router.

Linksys WRT54G can't connect 3rd wireless computer

log into the WRT54G wireless router and ensure that you do not have it set up for only handing out 4 IP addresses also check the laptop to see if it is set to have a DHCP or static IP address, if it has a static IP and your network is dynamic then this is why it wont connect.

if this resolves your issue and you are happy with the answer please grade me accordingly.

Linksys WRT54G not seeing internet connection

spacer335,

Who is your Internet service provider, and do you have cable or DSL? You said you have your PC, Xbox and DVR all hard-wired and working fine; are they currently able to get online while connected directly to the Linksys WRT54G? What devices are you trying to connect wirelessly to your Linksys WRT54G?

If you are currently getting Internet access let's check the wireless settings in your router.

Here are a few things you can do to verify your wireless settings in the Linksys WRT54G:

1. From your hard-wired PC, log into your Linksys WRT54G via the web-based interface. (Open Internet explorer and type 192.168.1.1) Note: this is the default IP address that comes on most Linksys routers.

If that doesn't work, verify your computers current IP address information by going to Start (or in Vista it's simply a windows icon), and selecting Run. Type CMD and hit Ok. Now type ipconfig and hit enter.

The default gateway information is the address of your router and should read something like 192.168.1.x.

Enter that address in Internet Explorer's address bar and hit Go.

2. If you connected successfully you should receive a username and password prompt, again the default username and password that comes with most Linksys devices is admin/admin, however it could be different if you've specified an alternate username/password. If you cannot remember the username/password, your only recourse is to perform a hard-reset of the device by using a small pin and holding the reset button on the back of the router.

3. Once you're in the router's web-based configuration there will be a section for "Wireless Settings" or "Wireless Configuration", or some derrevation. Depending on the version of firmware you have installed on the unit, it may be under Basic Setup or Advanced Setup.

You'll know you've located it when you have see options for SSID, Channel, Wireless Security/Encryption, WEP, WPA, etc.

This section will tell you the name of the signal your router broadcasts (also known as SSID). You can change this to whatever you like, in fact is reccommended you change to something unique so that you can easily identify your network when trying to connect with a laptop. You can also enable wireless security such as WEP or WPA, however for the purposes of troubleshooting let's leave encryption off for now. Once you've made the neccessary changes, select Save or Apply at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

4. Now, again since I don't know what you're attempting to connect wireless I will assume its a laptop with an intergrated wireless adpater, or possibly a USB or PCMCIA wireless adapter. Either way you should see your network (with the new name you've configured) in the list of avialable networks, do you see any networks listed? If the laptop has built-in wireless, is the WLAN switch enabled on the laptop? (Usually a small switch on the front or the side of the laptop indicating WLAN, or sometimes a function/fn key combination)

Hope this helps somewhat, give me some more information about what you're trying to connect wirelessly with and I'll see if I can help you out.

Unable to access the internet via my laptop

One of two problems. The Security Key for your wireless connection is wrong, or the McAfee is causing a problem. Most likely conflicting with any other virus software on your computer. Try removing McAfee from the computer and your solution should go away. Try another virus software such as Avast! Home edition. McAfee is known for having issues with wireless internet connections.
