Try and do a quick format on the hard drive, could of been that somebody switched out the hard drive with one that isn't formatted for the ps3. If it won't let you do a quick format on the hard drive then that means the hard drive that is in the system is bad and would need to be replaced. Once replacing the hard drive then go ahead and quick format it then. It should do it and then you can use the PS3 like you normally would.
G'day mate if its in the wrong format ie ogg vorbiss music files or a different operating system format it will not recognize, other thing is does the hard drive actually work ?
Hello, You can try to format the hard disk Go through: Setting>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk management> Try to format it with ntfs normal files system. hope this help you Regards uttam
Has the hard drive been formated?
To format the drive, plug the external drive into the USB port - go to the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management. The External drive should be listed as USB drive. On the lower panel, right click on the USB Drive and click on Format, and format it in NTFS.
After formating you will be able to use it as a normal hard drive.
If you don't have any relevant information on it, you may want to try to format it, plug it to your computer then go My Computer, right click the external drive you wish to repair and select format drive, don't move any of the options and click format. After format should work normally.
The normal, slow format can take hours, you could have selected quick format if you had the option would have problably taken around 10 seconds to a minute.
Formatting such a large hard disk will take a long time, especially if you do a full format (not a quick format).
Just let the computer do its thing, don't turn it off.
