Question about Magellan MAESTRO 3100 98083401 GPS Device
I just got my Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS unit. I let it charge today and tonight I went to go do the available update. However, during the update, the update stopped and it told me that the USB port could no longer find the device and gave me instructions to go back and try it again. I did so, and it won't do anything.... and the device it self, even after resetting it, just stays on the "Magellan" initial screen and won't even let me into options to try to restore it. Have I lost the programming? And if so, is there any way of getting it back?
If you followed the procedure closely, you now have an SD card with your backup on it. The backup consists of two folders: BACKUP, and USBTRANS. Insert the backup SD card in your PC's reader slot and open a "file explorer" aka "Windows Explorer", not to be confused with "Internet Explorer". You will use Windows Explorer to click and drag the USBRANS folder to the Maestro.
With the Maestro 3100 connected to the PC, a couple of Explorer folders will open and you can see the file structure for the GPS in 1, and in the other one a separate file structure for the blank SD card needed for the update. Look at the file structure for the GPS and you should see a handful of folders including "SYS".
SUMMARY: copy USBTRANS (it should contain 1 file: UNIT.DAT)

Ok well i had the same problem. now what windows you have can make problems too . you need to have windows XP or it will crash when you plug into the USB port after a bit. you can order the update CD for about 5 bucks from megellan for windows vista and 7. i have vista but also have an old PC with XP and down loaded the software and it fixed the problem. megellans tech support is not much help.

You have a failed firmware install. If the rollback has not worked and is stuck on the magellan screen, it needs to be send to magellan repair center

SOURCE: I just got my Magellan
you can if your computer can still see your gps and if you backed up your files before you did the update. if not, i do have the files, but your computer needs to see your 3100 and you need to do a few things before you start.
its alittle nerve racking if your computer cant see your gps, specifically the tfat (not the sd card)
#1 does your computer see your 3100
