Magellan Maestro 3100 stuck on

I just got my Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS unit. I let it charge today and tonight I went to go do the available update. However, during the update, the update stopped and it told me that the USB port could no longer find the device and gave me instructions to go back and try it again. I did so, and it won't do anything.... and the device it self, even after resetting it, just stays on the "Magellan" initial screen and won't even let me into options to try to restore it. Have I lost the programming? And if so, is there any way of getting it back?

I just tried the update and the Magellan screen is as described - stuck. This is bad, very bad. I have tried to reset, boot from the back SD card and none of it works

stuck on one address, wll not change

I've used mine for almost a year and it has performed great! But then I took it into my head to upgrade the firmware. It failed and now I've got a paperweight instead of a GPS. I dug into the logs a bit and found that the code I downloaded from the Magellan web page is very flawed. Among other things, it was looking for the wrong model, for goodness sake!

And forget about submitting a request for help. I've sent them in day after day with nary a word from them.

Same problem. I tried to update a Magellan Maestro 3100, and now it's brain dead. Solution #2 looks promising, but my backup SD does not contain the USBTRANS folder, only the BACKUP folder. Where can I get a copy of the USBTRANS stuff?

tried to backup and didnt work. Now stuck on the blue screen and will not load anyhting. The folders on the device are empty.
What if you didnt do the backup? Does anyone have the files backed up that they could send me? Any help would be great.

    Thanks

tried to do update, and it just as it was updating, the PC indicated that it could not find the device. Now the GPS is frozen on the reset screen. Nice paperweight now. Highly recommended to not do the 2.18 install. Also, I would like to find the idiot at Magellan that created this update and make him buy me a new GPS. I sent an email to Magellan and have not heard from them yet.

If you followed the procedure closely, you now have an SD card with your backup on it. The backup consists of two folders: BACKUP, and USBTRANS. Insert the backup SD card in your PC's reader slot and open a "file explorer" aka "Windows Explorer", not to be confused with "Internet Explorer". You will use Windows Explorer to click and drag the USBRANS folder to the Maestro.

With the Maestro 3100 connected to the PC, a couple of Explorer folders will open and you can see the file structure for the GPS in 1, and in the other one a separate file structure for the blank SD card needed for the update. Look at the file structure for the GPS and you should see a handful of folders including "SYS".

  • Start the upgrade program, following the procedures.
  • Click the NEXT button at the bottom of the procedures screen.
  • Immediately copy the backed up USBTRANS folder (and all contents) to the SYS folder on the GPS.
  • The update should now find the Maestro 3100 and proceed with the update.

SUMMARY: copy USBTRANS (it should contain 1 file: UNIT.DAT)
  • from your BACKUP SD card (not the one in the Maestro)
  • to your Maestro 3100's SYS folder.

Ok well i had the same problem. now what windows you have can make problems too . you need to have windows XP or it will crash when you plug into the USB port after a bit. you can order the update CD for about 5 bucks from megellan for windows vista and 7. i have vista but also have an old PC with XP and down loaded the software and it fixed the problem. megellans tech support is not much help.

You have a failed firmware install. If the rollback has not worked and is stuck on the magellan screen, it needs to be send to magellan repair center

hi simple181

you can if your computer can still see your gps and if you backed up your files before you did the update. if not, i do have the files, but your computer needs to see your 3100 and you need to do a few things before you start.

its alittle nerve racking if your computer cant see your gps, specifically the tfat (not the sd card)

#1 does your computer see your 3100

Magellan maestro 3100 stuck at bootup screen

did that just happen all of a sudden or did you try and update the 3100 and it failed to boot after that...if you didnt try to update it...turn the 3100 on then use a paper clip to depress the reset on the left side bottom of the gps and let it restart.

if that fails, let me know and ill help you further

My Magellan Maestro 31100 won't power on

You could have a defective power connection in your Magellan Maestro 3100 which will not allow you to charge the internal battery or power on your unit.
You may try to contact Magellangps.com or Autonav2000.com to see if they can provide you with repair service.
Might be cheaper to purhcase another Magellan Maestro than spend the money on repairs.
Good Luck

Hi My Magellan Maestro powers up with the Magellan screen and the bar scrolls but thats all it does? Carl Lucas Aberdeen MD

i just replied to a fellow with the same problem and since your problem is same, ill post what i wrote him/her but try a hard reset 1st..turn the gps on then locate the little pin hole on the side, using a paper clip, push reset....if that fails, try the 2.18 update if you havent already.

updates for any magellan can be found HERE
but read below first before getting the update

i cant stress enough that patients is a must here. this update is huge 1.75GB

follow the instructions below whether you have updated your gps already or not!

There are few ways to solve this problem. i assume you installed the 2.18 update for the 3100 and assuming you tried the reset already, try and run the update again and follow the directions to the letter..make sure the battery is fully charged (i also keep mine plugged in if the update doesnt say not to) and do not try and run the update across a network. this update is huge 1.75GB and can take an hour or so depending on the computer..do not interrupt the update process. if you do not have the 2.18 update read me file, i can try and post it here, but its in PDF and dont think i can post that

if all else fails, magellan will fix or replace for free any of there gps that were rendered inoperable due to one of there updates.

either solution will work but magellans going to tell you to run the update again anyway before sending it back.

i gave you the 2 easyest ways to fix it,but
there are other ways to get it running again, but if your not comfortable copying and moving files...youll make it even worst then it is.

hope this helps.
