    Hi

Thanks for a quick response, I am using Windows XP. Can you please provide me a link corresponding to the same. Also I tried to reinstall the existing driver a number of times & could obtain intermittent sound from the internal speakers. The sound starts at times but suddenly stops. The sound from the ear phones still works fine. As I have performed no upgrades to the system & the speakers suddenly stopped to respond so am assuming its a hardware issue. Please advise, I'll be glad to provide more information if needed.

    Thanks

    ujjwal

I have the same problem with my hp DV6000. The speakers will not make a peep but I can hear sound out of the headphone jack. The switch on the headphone jack is not stuck verified this by plugging in in headphones and looking at playback devices by right clicking the speaker in vista and clicking playback devices from there double click on the playback device and looking at the jack status it says 3.5 front jack when I have the headphones plugged in the front jack and analog out for the speakers. I went so far as to remove the questionable speakers and try them out on my hp compaq laptop and they worked fine plugged in there. I think it is a device /driver mapping issue or the output for the speakers has a problem but have had no luck with that yet. There are two plugs for the internal speakers on the power button card I tried the free one also with no luck. My problem showed up after some vista updates and my restore point only goes back a few days and the problem is a week old I am going to try a retro driver next I had this problem when i first upgraded to vista and hp helped me correct it over the phone when i was still under warranty but now they will not talk to me as it has expired. My driver and card are different on my hp compaq f700 and does not show the status like my dv6000 does

I bought this laptop two months back, on sunday i was listening to song in the internal
speakers ( Altec lancinsg speakers built in to it ). I kept the volume to 100 % after the song finished placing this problem started like
the sound from the speakers was terrible and not at all clear and also from the right side alone i was able to hear the some noise when
i try to paly anything. But when the same sound was clear in my headphones and it work perfectly..

Please let me know is this a hardware issue or a driver issue, below is my laptop config

    COMPAQ PRESARIO V6500
    AMD TURION 64X2 TECHNOLOGY
    2GB RAM
    160 GB HARD DRIVE
    BUILT-IN CARD READER
    WIRELESS & BLUETOOTH
    DVD MULTI RECORDER

Hi,

This is Vikram Kumar Thumu, from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue. I would like to provide my solution on the issue.

Well, this is issue not a hardware issue since you are able to hear sound by Ear Phone. This is an issue with either Conflict of IRQ or could also happen with driver of Audio is not working fine.

Please open the below link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00833257&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=3256602

it is an HP article that is applicable for Notebooks with Windows Vista... this article helps to resolve the issue related to Sound...

In Most cases the issue will resolved once if DRIVER of SOUND is uninstalled from Device manager and then by reinstallation...

I am sure that this will resolve the issue.

Note :

If you are using Windows XP, please let me know so that I can search for article for Windows XP and provide you solution...

if you have any queries on the issue, you can mail me at thumuvikram@rediffmail.com. I'll be glad to help you!!!

Bye...

It is the ribbon cable for the daughter board on the top panel. This controls the power button and the top speakers. The place it is located in is subjected to extreme heat and bending from pressing the power button too hard (engineered obsolesce just bad engineering take your pick) anyway the fix is as easy as removing the 5 screws under the battery and the one screw under the memory cover with the keyboard symbol on it. I will find a replacement on line or in my closet full of junk seems pretty standard flat ribbon cable. This problem could be covered under warranty with HP if your laptop is within the guidelines on their website for the recall. the recall is for power button issues and this is the next problem your going to have making your laptop useless. All you have to tell them is the power button works intermittently (now that i think about it mine did have a problem turning on sometimes) not any more. I just borrowed the cable that went to the crappy quick launch mute and volume controls untill i can find a replacement

Don't replace the cable with HP's cable. You need a better quality cable that can be bought on Ebay, I had the same problem with my DV6000

It was an issue with the laptop speakers. Contacted HP and got them replaced.

Go to support.hp.com, browse or type in your model and go to drivers and downloads. The driver you need is called "HP Quick launch buttons".

All of a sudden my microphone stopped working on notebook

try plugging a mic in the mic hole to see if it works , that would eliminate the driver or the sound card issue.

if you dont have a mic you can use a diskman headset, and speak in to the ear part
wont be as loud but still good to test

HP Compaq nx6115 PC Notebook : Speakers suddenly stopped working

Just go to your computer manufacturer's website and see if there are any audio driver updates, because that is what it sounds like to me. If there aren't any driver updates for your audio, then reinstall the audio drivers that it shows. If your computer is just a couple months old, then it is or should still be under warranty. if the driver update/ reinstall doesn not fix the issue, then if you purchased the laptop from a store, take it back, along with your receipt, and ask for an exchange or for them to repair it. if you bought it online, contact the site or your manufacturer if you ordered it from them, and request their process of sending it back for a replacement or repair. I hope. this helps you out
