Toshiba no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key

try booting from a Windows installation disc. Choose the repair installation option. If this does not work, you may have to erase (format) your whole drive and start over again by reinstalling Windows from scratch.

Before erasing the drive, you might want to pull it out, put as a second drive in another working computer or inside a USB hard drive case and download all of your information from it. Otherwise you may have a mess on your hands with lost data/documents/photos.

I bought a used laptop,a dv4000, and would like to know how to restore back to out-of-box factory settings

Hi and Welcome to fixya!

In order to reset your machine to the factory settings, just follow these steps:

Access the HP Backup and Recovery Manager

1. Turn on the computer and hold down the "F11" key once the BIOS prompts appear on the monitor.

2. Click on the button labeled "Advanced Options" in the Welcome Screen once the Recover Manager opens. Choose the "System Recovery" option and click "Next."

3. If the "Microsoft System Restore" window appears, select "No" and click "Next."

4. The Recovery Manager will then prompt you to back up any important files as the restoration process will delete all data on the computer's hard drive. If you wish to perform a backup first, select "Back up your files first," click "Next" and follow the on-screen instructions. If not, choose the "Recover without backing up your files" and click the "Next" button. The computer will then begin the restoration process and restore the HP DV4000 to its original factory settings.

Hope this helps!

Want to restore dell 9400 inspiron to factory settings ,.forgot hardware reset pass word, i disconeected memory battery while replacing kry pad

Hi,

I you restore your laptop to factory settings, all data and software installed would be lost. i f you are fine with that or u have backed up the data already, follow the below process:

I have assumed that you have windows vista or windows 7:
  • Power off the laptop. Remove any peripheral devices such as speakers, printers or flash drives that are not necessary to this operation. Power on the laptop while holding down the "F8" key until the advanced boot options menu appears.
  • Move the arrow key to "Repair Your Computer." Hit the "Enter" key.
  • Select the language settings to be used for the recovery process with the arrow keys and hit "Next." Log in, if necessary. Press "Next."
  • Choose "Dell Factory Image Restore" OR "Complete PC restore" to restore the drive's original factory settings, and click on "Next."
  • Check the box next to the "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" option. Select "Next" and the computer will recover itself based on its configuration settings in the recovery partition.
This will take your computer on the day you bought it. You will get all application back which were pre-installed and will loose everything which you put by yourself.

Cheers!!!

How do you bring back your computer to its original state like when you first bought it

To put the original factory software back on your computer is called recovery or system restore, and it can be done a couple of ways.

Computers used to routinely come with a recovery set, one or more CDs containing the factory image. Those discs are largely a thing of the past now, but you may have a computer which included them. You put the disc (or the first one) in the CD drive, boot the computer from that drive, and the recovery process proceeds on its own.

Since nearly every computer sold today includes a disc burner, recovery CD sets aren't provided. Instead, there is a utility program installed that lets you make your own recovery set. Some people never get around to making these discs. If that happens and you want to restore the exact factory software, you need to check the manufacturer's website to see if you can purchase a restore set. Some manufacturers offer them for sale, but not many. And they are usually expensive.

Another option is a recovery partition on the hard drive. The factory image is stored there in a compressed form. In a computer with a recovery partition, pressing the appropriate key or key sequence boots the computer from there, and the recovery begins. If your computer shows a message like "Press F10 for system recovery" or something like it, there is a recovery partition.

If you don't have a restore set and there's no recovery partition, you can install a fresh copy of Windows using a regular Windows installation CD. You just need to make sure you're installing the same version that was on your computer when you bought it. When the installation asks for your product key, you would find it on a sticker somewhere on the computer. If you install Windows this way you'll need to activate it, and you'll need to install any driver software needed for the system hardware (video, sound, and network interface at least, plus whatever else is in your computer). You can download these drivers from the computer manufacturer's website. You also would need to install any application software, since none of those that were preloaded will be there. This isn't a bad thing, though. Most computers come with a lot of mainly useless software preloaded that you don't need. With a clean Windows installation you can put on just what you really need, and you can choose which program to use.

I hope this has helped. If so, please take a moment to leave a thoughtful rating. Thanks for using Fixya!
