Sony STR DE-445 unit powers up but no sound

Sony STR DE-445.
getting no sound in any mode. Unit powers up and all controls work normally, just can't get anything to come through. I've checked all the dummy problems (speakers are connected, not muted, etc.). Is there an internal fuse that could have blown and can be replaced?

All of the lights remained on, but there was a fizzling sound and the sound stopped. there was a spill on the unit two weeks before.

Check the fuse, Sony is known for its random problems with sound. The one I have you must tap it on the side. Its a flicker switch inside.

I have the same problem on my 445. Light tapping used to work, then that didn't work anymore. Is there a fuse that can be changed to fix this?

Powers up, all lights buttons seem to work, but no sound

This can happen. Lightening causes static charge that can be picked up by speaker wires. It is possible ONE of the amplifiers has failed.
To check, have the room quiet. Turn on the amp. After 5 to 10 seconds there should be a nice solid 'CLICK' from inside the amp. If there is no click, the unit is in safety mode. You will need a service shop.

Chances are you have shorted output transistors, check with ohm meter across all 3 legs, there should be no shorts if good.. cost on average around 150.00

I need help my sony str dec 445 keep flasking the protect on the display

first check for any loose speaker wire in the back as this will cause the unit to go into protect mode if the bare speaker wire is touching, if thats not the case then there is a problem with the unit internaly and would be hard to tell whats wrong with it without looking at it.

Sony STR DE 197 Reciever with No Sound

I have the same unit. My best recommendation would be to remove all speaker wiring, and try new wiring with another pr of speakers, since the "outdoor " speakers were rained on. the protect mode that the unit went into sounds like it did because the speaker outputs were shorted due to the rain, so ensure that the speaker output terminals are not shorted and dry...also see if output is still availalable at the headphone jack...if it is, the pre-amp section is still good , in which case the protect mode and no volume output out of the speaker jacks may mean that youve blown the ouput trasnsistor finals.
I hope this helps.

Sony DE-445 reciever flashes PROTECT

Sounds like a grounding problem. If the ground plug isn't missing or loose try plugging it into a different outlet.

Sony STR-DE 605 FLASHES PROTECTION ON READOUT

To all users with this problem:

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.
