You can do it yourself. Go to the nearest home depot and get the wire that matches the size and number of wires as yours. unsolder the old one after you take it apart and place the new one in. Otherwise you can take it into a computer repair shop and they will be able to do that for you quickly and efficiently.

I'm looking for a replacement wind shield for a Sony ECM-MS907 microphone. Does anyone know of a store that stocks them? The cover that is, not the mic, I have that! :-) Thanks in advance! psibernaut ...

Radioshack has some generic windscreens, call ahead though as sometimes they are buried in the back room. You can also make one using panty hose. Kind've DIY but good in a pinch.

Hi, I bought a sony ecm mic brand new, but whenever i switch it on, the red light comes on for a fraction of a second and then goes off, and i cannot record with it. This is despite trying many new...

Ah, yes.
If you look in the manual you'll find that the mic is supposed to do this.
If the LED does not blink when you switch on then you have a flat battery, otherwise it shouldn't stay lit.
The manual is available here in PDF format: http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3858569131.pdf
I hope this helps.

I have an ECM-MS907 Sony mike. I started having some issues with a wierd buzz and then I realized that my cord was frayed. Is there anywhere I can get a replacement cord? The issue I see with replacing...

I had a similar problem with my ECM-MS907.
The cable had broken near the mic and the right channel would drop in and out as i moved the cable.
Unfortunately the only solution is to open up the microphone, unsolder the cable, cut out the broken area and solder in the remainder of the cable.
I did this this morning and it was quite tricky. It's easy to open the microphone (3 screws) and the 3 solder pads (left, right and ground) are large and easy to solder to. The big problem is that the wires for left and right channels in the cable are very fine and insulated with enamel which is hard to strip (try just burning it off with the tip of the soldering iron).
Anyway, a bit of an involved fix... I wish this mic had a 3.5mm socket on the bottom  instead of having the cable soldered in. I hate stuff that's not easily replaceable.

Should the light come on!?

Hi timtak

The light should come on momentarily when you turn the mic on, and then go out. If it remains dimly lit, or does not come on at all, then the battery needs to be replaced. The way the light responds is supposed to indicate the condition of the battery for you, unless it is so depleted that there is not enough juice left to light the LED. You can read up about this in the user manual here if you want:) A FixYa is a great reward for sorting this out for yah. Cheers

Left channel only

If you take it to a store then you can probably have it sent to sony who will give you an estimate before fixing it. This mic offers one of the best cost performance ratios so you will probably end up buying another one. Upon that assumption, ifthe repair quote is less than about 70% of the retail price then it may be worth getting it repaired. I have found sony repairs (to a digital camera) to be reasonably priced.

IT DOES NOT WORK ECM-MS907 Professional...

Just in case you have having the same problem as me....

The reason why my microphone was giving mixed results was because I was using the wrong setting. The microphone slider says "90 degrees" and "120 degrees." I assumed that these angles refered to the area that the microphone picked up. So for a single narrow sound source, like my voice, the narrower, 90 degrees setting seemed appropriate.

Now that I have looked at the manual I see it is the reverse (weird but true. Perhaps the angles refer to the angles that the microphone ignores completely under each setting?).

I have been recording my voice. I noticed that sometimes the sound was good and other times the sound level was too low. I think that the reason is because sometimes I inadvertantly set the microphone to the 120 degree setting, which picks up my voice well, while at other times I set the mic to the 90 degree setting which attempts to pick up sound from a wider area, giving the central source less prominence.Setting the microphone to the 120 degree setting cured my problem. I hope it cures your problem too.

Problem recording when connected to computer

In the volume control panel look for mic boost and tick the box to boost the microphone volume. It's under options properties/Advanced controls etc.
