Your older software will work with vista. Right click on the icon and choose compatibility. Tell it to run this app in xp. Done

Bernina has a new version of Artlink available from your local dealer. It is not free, older versions do not work with Vista, sorry for the bad news.

How can I purchase a hard drive for a Bernina 180 Embroidery Machine. The authorized Bernina Repair man can install it?

Don't think they offer that nor was it an option. They have a serial interface to download or upload designs to or from the machine's embroidery option. Check out a USB to Serial onverter and connect the PC to the machne. I used a Dynex brand cable and it worked. Use Bernina'a Artlink software (it;s free) and connect that way. Very easy to use.

How do I connect my 165 to a computer with USB ports only?

Use the free Artlink software from Bernina. The cconnector... use a USB to Serial port converter cable. Best Buy has them *Dynex brand). Worked for me on an Artista 180.

I have a Bernina 170 and do not now how to install software, what type of software I need, I have the original cable, but I need help on how to install software, etc.

Go to the Bernina Website and download "Artlink Version 6". It's a free download and works well for the basics of downloading files into your machine.

I use Windows 7 on a laptop and purchased a USB to serial converter cable from Best Buy. The brand was Dynex. Some converters do not work but this one worked for me.

Anyway my wife is running an Artista 180 and she has not done much with it until lately. We had some older software on an old PC from years ago but of course that machine died and was long gone.

Using the Dynex USB to Serial cable and the Artlink software got us rocking and rolling again.

I have a bernina 180 and am looking for a reader writer that is compatible. I have both the artista software and Embird but I prefer to use Embird. Can you tell me if the mini magic box is compatible and...

If you only need to write the designs.... Get an USB to Serial port adapter cable. Then download Artlink from the Bernina website. It's free. I did this on a 180 with Windows 7 and got this old machine working again.

Hi, Unfortunately any of Bernina's software that is older than Version 5 , will not work with Vista. There are some software patches available on the web site, but there is nothing out there that will help you if you have any Version 4 software or older. Microsoft really through out a curve ball to everyone with VISTA as there is a lot of software out there that will not work in that operating system.
Actually the lowest cost solution would be to get a nice used computer that runs Windows XP. You do not need a super fast, state of the art computer to run embroidery programs.
I bought a nice used computer at a yard sale for $10.00 and it even came with the XP install disk. I replaced the hard drive just because they do wear out after a few years, installed XP in it and that computer is now in my wife's sewing room and it is only used for her embroidery work.
You might have a computer repair shop in your area where you can buy an older XP computer that has been reconditioned. The few dollars you would spend to get an older computer would cost you far less than buying new Bernina Version 5 software. It is EXPENSIVE! Good luck...bushvideo
