Same problem- microwave shuts off

I have posted this problem before. The JVM1650 is shutting off after a few seconds. It seemed to work with control panel at a 45 degree angle but now it is starting to shut off while panel is off. I have found the same customer service with GE. They will only cover magnetron on a service call. I followed the troubleshooting flow chart enclosed with the microwave that also includes the wiring diagram.Anyway, one of the tests include measuring voltage at relay on circuit board while unit is running, I get about 0 volts. I should be getting 120v. The chart says to replace high voltage transformer. Is the shutting off a symptom of a bad HVT?? I do not want to keep replacing parts I do not need. I tried a new printed circuit board but that was not the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Our GE Spacemaker model JVM1650CH03 has normal display until the start button is pushed then it runs momentairly and stops , then we have to reset the display. It would appear there is a component shorted out as it trips to the reset mode almost immediately after the start button is pushed. The unit is about 2.5 years old was installed new when the house was build as an over the range microwave. We are trying to define the trouble so parts are not ordered that probably won't fix it. The lights work and the display works. The turntable and fan start when the button is pushed to start before the fault trips and we see xxxxxxx's in the display. Help! BD

You have a bad magnetron. The fact that it works when the board is tilted is the giveaway.

If you don't want to pay for the service call and prefer to do it yourself, please note the safety and parts links below:

GE spacemakerXL microwave JVM1650 w touch screen Hi speed not working on external vent fan

It seems like the control panel is malfunctioning. The censorfor external vent fan may not work due to faulty control panel. You need toreplace the control panel, so that microwave will work properly. Replacing anERC is not a difficult repair and can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourselfoffer. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

MICROWAVE WILL RUN FOR LESS THAN 10 SECONDS AND THEN DOES A COMPLETE SHUT DOWN REQUIRING ME TO REST TIME AND DATE TO TRY AGAIN

I would say that when the microwave is switched on to cook, the magnetron heaters take about 3 seconds to get the magnetron to draw current and that would coinside with a poor connection in the mains power plug or fuse holder in the machine.
Seems logical to me.

Model JVM1650WH02 will shut off about 2 seconds or less into cook time. everything else works such as light and clock and sometimes the wave will cook.

magnetron is leaking internally, do not use until magnetron is replaced. the mag creates interference with the control board and resets it

SET CLOCK. TRY TO USE. IT SHUTS OFF AFTER A FEW SECONDS.

I found an envelope with troubleshooting info inside the microwave on the left side behind the front vent. A troubleshooting flowchart was included which indicates that this problem is caused by the high voltage capacitor. I got mine out pretty easy and ordered one from appliancepartspros.com for $55 (which includes expedited shipping. I hope this info helps.

Oven stops after a few seconds

I like the information you give.
If the unit will work with the control Panel at a 45 degree angle it tells me you have a loose connection. The 45 degree angle puts enough pressure on the connection to keep it completed. With the Control Panel in it's normal position, the loose connection Heats and Opens the connection. After it cools connection is again made until it Heats up again. Remember Expansion, Contraction. I do not believe you have a Magnetron issue!! A Magnetron does not know if the Control Panel is at an angle.
Can you hear a slight "Click" when the unit shuts down? If so this is a relay opening. When you say you replaced the Control Board. Was this the Control Panel PC Board, or was it the Cook-Relay Control Board? A Door Switch not making solid contact can do this. Is your Door latching down solid? Check for loose connections, not open LOOSE.

The microwave starts, then stops 2 seconds later

I tried a solution posted on another posting http://www.fixya.com/support/t242480-stops_cooking by placing the conductive plastic behind the control panel and it worked.
