This did not help, tried to clear the quere but it wont let me or even let me delete the printer from the system. We bought another printer. HP wante $89 to send it in and fix it. I thought is that it is a sensor or a or a connector somewhere. It could be the new blk cartridge but Im not investing another $20 to find out.

Thanks for all the help, Rusty

The computor wouldnt let me delete all HP folders in Explorer something about affecting other programs.

The first step was completed by going to msconfig and unchecking all HP boxes and restarting putor.

When I go to control panel, printers, it still show the 5900 series with 1 document pending but that the printer is being deleted offline. Should I going ahead and delete all HP folders in putor and accept what happens?? Will anything happen?

Im not sure the printer is worth all this trouble but now I'm determined to get it running. HP is not full of poo, but they wanted $89 (they will pay all shipping for 2 years) but I can get a 4300 seriesall in one for that same price. A much nicer printer. But like I said the problem is now ticked me off and I would like to fix this blasted piece of technalogical ------------.

bikingarcola, when you described your trouble with the printer you failed to mention the second half 2-26-08. Under this type of problem (unable to remove doc's in que) or delete from system. That is not a common issue but it is workable. In other words I can show you how to un-install the HP 5940 either manually or by using HP's un-installer. Put HP's CD back in the cdrom. When it loads the splash screen check for a un-install utility. If your CD does not have a un-install utility than lets go to the next step.

Click start, than run. Type in the window, msconfig & press enter. Click the Startup tab. Remove the check mark on the left of any file under Command that reads \HP\ Click OK & re-start your system. Open control panel, open Add/Remove programs. un-install any programs that have anything to do with HP. Re-start the system when finished. Lastly, right click on the Start button, slide up to explorer & left click. Open Program files & delete any HP folders you see. All done. You can now re-install the HP printer software.

Most people leave their printer's on. Unless your going on vacation. The on led uses about 2v of electricity. I never shut down my 3yr old HP 5510 all-in-one but I do keep a cover on it at all time to keep dust away from the internals.

    lol Rusty,

No it's ok, you can delete it. This is your personal PC right?

The only time a system will not allow removal is if it's on a network. One would need permission from the administrator.

Power off the printer & unplug the USB cable.

You got the message because the printer has a job in the que. There is another trick in msconfig. Should have just guided you to this. Remember how to open msconfig? When it opends

click Diagnostic startup - load basic devices & services only. Click ok & re-start the system. Check the print que. If there is still a print job waiting you should be able to delete it. If you didn't remove the printer from Control panel go a head & do so.

When all done open msconfig & set it back to normal startup. Re-start the system. You can download patches & drivers from HP for your 5940 at this link:

Rusty, that 4300 is a laser jet. You thought inkjet is a killer $$. Wait till you have to replace a toner. OMG

    Mike Peluso Feb 29, 2008

Rusty, you did attempt to uninstall the printer software.

So running the dianostics for the printer will show missing files.

Unplug the power & data cable from the printer.

If this were me I would just boot to windows safe mode. To boot into windows safe mode. As the Pc starts press the F5 key every two seconds. Windows will show a dos like window with a bunch of way to start windows. Use your keyboard's up/down arrow keys to highlite Safe Mode & press enter. Choose your user name to enter windows.

Than I would run a windows search. In windows search window click More Advanced options. Click the first three box's.

Set windows search for HP 5900 loacation C:\

Delete every thing it finds. Than search for HP & delete all.

Re-start your system. Don't worry if the printer is still listed in control panel. Load your HP 5900 into the cdrom & install the software/driver. You are not on a network? So do not install the printer as if it is were networked. Standared install.

The printer might be working but the cartridge is not connected properly. Just open your printer, remove the cartridge and replace it back in its right position.

If the Resume c00121686.jpg light continues to blink and the print cartridge cradle does not move to the right side of the printer, try these solutions:
    • Remove and reinstall the print cartridges. Verify that the print cartridges are in the print cartridge cradle before pushing them forward into position.
    • Verify that no obstruction prevents the print cartridge cradle from moving freely on the rod.
    • Verify that the vinyl tape has been removed from each of the print cartridges.
If the problem persists, contact HP Customer Care.

PROBLEM COPYING WITH MY ALL- IN- ONE

This message is inbuilt into most Canon printers, there is spongy thing in the printer which when fills up fires the message (it's mostly a counter in the printer, which can be reset more later...), per Canon this can only be dealt with in a lab but some of the more adventurous have tried cleaning it by themselves. Note that in a lab they won't clean it, it's a part that needs replacing and it might cost around $60. In most Canon printers there is a reset procedure that can reset the error and allow you to print some more before handling it again. Following are the reset procedures for some of the Printers: (not that F60 isn't listed here) Canon GENERIC "S" SERIES RESET CODE Waste Ink Counter Reset. (1) Turn off the printer. (2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button. (3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset" or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode". (4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press. 1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check. 2. EEPROM - Info printout. 3. EEPROM - Initialization. 4. Reset the Waste ink counter. 5. Printer model setting.
