Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range

GE TrueTemp Gas Stove

The oven igniter is no longer working on my 4 year old stove. It's a model XL44. Is this something I can fix myself, or do I have to call a service company?

I have a GE Spectra model XL 44 and the burners work and the broiler works fine, but the oven won't light at all. I would like to know what I could do to fix the problem, the oven is not that old!!

Yup, got the same problem as one of the other posters. Oven won't light, stove top does and so does the broiler. Anybody know what's up and how to fix? Seems to be with the recent posts it is a GE Quality Assurance / Control issue.

My problem on the 5 year old GE stove top is after cleaning it just keeps clicking to ignite. Seems to be all 4 burners. If I take the round little lid and the top metal rings off it sort of stops but starts when any 1 is put back on.

    Did it get wet?

Does it need a new igniter and can I do it??

I have home warrantte for about 3 more days.

    Any help would be appreciated

GE Trutemp gas range oven wont lite but burners work

  • Stella3162 Apr 25, 2008

The top of my oven does not light in "bake" mode. I can hear what
sounds like puffs of gas but there is no clicking and no
iigniting. The bottom works but not the top. Now when I put
the broiler on high or low the top lights so I can't figure out why it
won't in Bake Mode. The oven is 5 years old.

Same thing. Burners good, oven dead. Unit has power, burners are getting gas. There is no hiss, no clicks, nothing happens though the display says it is preheating. So much for the cookies...

I agree - QA seems to be an issue. The unit cannot be more than 3-4 years old.

Hi there,

Not sure that I can help but will give it a go. Often the igniter plastic covering comes off the wiring from the heat of the oven and the igniter arcs on a metal surface on the oven. I had this problem with a gas oven I had. Check along the igniter wiring to see if it is arcing. Best way to find it is to firstly locate the wiring then ignite the oven WITHOUT THE GAS ON. If it is arcing you should be able to see a little flash. Check to make sure it is flashing at the right spot first near the pilot. Easiest way to rectify this problem is to wind electrical tape around the igniter providing you can get to the wire. If you have to pull out the igniter you can buy a plastic product called Heatshrink from places like Tandy or Electrical Hardware Stores. Just put some Heatshrink or Electricians Tape around it and it should solve the problem. Only other thing it could be is the igniter needs replacing. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan

My GE XL44 Gas Range (Model JGBP34 GEP 1A) control

If you like the stove and it in good shape otherwise, have it fixed. The parts are still available. The stove in good used condition (without leak) is probably worth $75.00. May cost that much to repair it. Will cost approximately $450.00 to replace it with equal range. If it's a standing pilot model (no electricity needed) they are unavailable and your new range will require power to use the oven. Hope this helps.

GE Spectra TrueTemp Oven Pilot is Out

REmove bottom panel from stove. shut gas off for at LEAST 5 min. Longer is better. Then placel open flame above gas nozzle, slowly turn to ignite posiiton. After it is lit, wait 30 seconds and turn to on positon.
If by chance this model doens't have a knob for this, then turn gas valve off for 5 min, let fumes evaporate, light flame, place over nozzle, turn gas on.replace bottom oven panel slowly.

you will need a new heating element at the bottom. to find the part, go to ge's website and get the model #- you should be able to find it either online or a service center.

GE Profile Spectra XL44 oven wouldn't light, stove top and broiler works

We have our second GE stove and it has started to do the same as the rest of you.  Our first stove began to suffer igniter issues after 4 or 5 years.  I called GE and was given a simple test procedure for the igniter using a multimeter that I don't remember and likely wouldn't post regardless lest someone do things incorrectly... In any event, as I understand, the gas flow is tied to the igniter temp.  As the igniter ages, the temp that it can achieve gets lower. Eventually, it hits a point where the temperature isn't sufficient to reliably ignite the gas and our problems start.  The solution is fairly simple.  Replace the igniter. So, call a repair person and tell them the problem.  They can come out and instal the new igniter.  Unless you are a licensed or certified repair person, DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF.  Let the pros handle repair to gas appliances.
