It sounds like the Main Charge Grid. If you are able to take it out of your machine then the grid probably broke off.
Is the grid a thin shiny metal piece about 10" long by about 1/2" wide?
Does it have a bunch of lines/open spaces on it.
If this is what i am describing, then you can purchase another drum unit, and this should take care of your problem with the copy quality and you will not have to worry about the grid.

Just to be on the safe side, where ever you place your order for a new drum unit, ask the company if the Main Charge Corona and grid come with the unit. I am pretty sure that model does have everything all in one unit.
Good luck.
Hope this helps. Please remember to post a feedback and rating if I have helped you in anyway.

Just checking to see if you have received the new drum unit yet and if that took care of the problem.

When is the last time the developer and drum where replaced? When the last time was a PM done? Very 250,000 copies a PM must be done? Which replaces the Corona Wires, Developer, Drum, Corona Grid, Web roller for fuser (Hot Part). Also during the PM the Tech should clean the toner out of the Waste Toner collection unit on the image unit. also clean the area around the drum and developer roller.

Hi Usha

The possible causes
-charge corona
-drum in end life

The high voltage wire used to charge the photo-conductive drum is broken or shorted.

It will need to be repaired or replaced.
It is usually a fairly simple job, but you may need the replacement wires to complete the job.
It could be someone has pressed the scoritron grid tensioner and allowed the grid to drop onto the drum.
Great care must be taken when working around the drum area.
If you open the front of the machine.
drop down the transfer section (yellow or green handle)
flip out the toner bottle.
you should see to recessed screws, one behind the toner bottle, one on the far right side of the unit. loosen these all the way,
there may be a plug in each side to disconnect.
you should now be able to slide the unit out.

set it down in some paper, the corona will be the long metal housing stretching front to back on the drum unit.

Remove it by sliding it one way, then it should open like a hinge, open it all the way and it should pop loose of the main unit.
The corona wire is behind the grid, it is the thickness of a human hair. If it is broken you will need a replacement, if the grid was off when you opened the unit up reinstall the grid and reassemble.
If the corona shell or the scoritron is discolored, clean them with a glass cleaner and soft cloth.
Keep the drum covered with paper so it is not exposed to direct light for any great length of time, do not allow the drum to be exposed to direct sunlight.

What could be the cause of a copy fading in the middle or a faded copy

Hi There, this depends on what make and model your machine is, in general, faded in the middle means that the charge roller or corona unit is dirty or the paper separation roller/grid, stop your machine while the paper is halfway through, then look at the toner image on the drum, if that is light also, then the problem is with charge roller/grid, if the image on the drum is nice and dark then the problem is with your image separation roller/grid.

How to take out the thin line in my photocopy

If the line only happens when using the auto document feeder, clean the strip of glass to the right of the main table glass. If it is happening from both the document feeder and the table glass, you need to clean the main charge unit. Open the front door and remove the toner cartridge. There will be one blue screw holding the developing unit the toner cartridge slid out of. Remove the developing unit, and keep it level. Now open the side door and slide the drum unit out from the front of the machine. You will see the black plastic charge unit mounted to the top of the drum unit. Remove 2 screws and remove the charge unit. You will see a metal grid and underneath that a piece of metal with teeth running the length of the charge unit. Use a tooth brush and alcohol to clean the teeth and wipe the metal grid.

Over toning

do you have extra toner dropping on to the paper path after you clean it? That is what is sounds like. You are either having waste toner fall onto the paper path from the drum blade or cleaning reservoir. Or your developer is dropping toner as it shower the drum. If you are not having imaging issues, besides the toner on back; you might want to check the separation or transfer coronas and their voltages (ie...make sure all your grounds are good and clean) or it might be a voltage biasing problem.

Because somehow you are getting toner into the paper path after the copy. UNLESS....you did not clean the paper path good enough and you are just getting leftover run-off until the documents can clear it all.

But, always try the simplest things first!!

Good Luck!!

Prints with lines to the right margin of the page. How can this be corrected?

This can depend on if they are white or black lines and if you can feel a texture on the paper. Most often the cause is a bad toner cartridge. If you are using generic toner cartridges, I would suggest trying a new HP one instead to see if it clears up. If you feel a deep texture to it, the fusing unit may be wearing out and need to be replaced.

We are printing 2 sided agendas which contain 44 pages each. The print from the first side is showing through on the second side. How can we fix this problem?

ia the paper you are using heavy or velum textured some papers with a textured surfaces are not compatible with copiers..the fuser section cannot heat the toner in the texture enough for it to adhere to page. check the same print job with normal paper and compare results..

Well one reason the Cartirdge is spilling is due to the cartridge backing up with toner everytime it tries to print, it misfeeds cause the paper feed tires need to be replaced,

Brothers HL 1240 Alarm light on

Pull the drum out the front door, remove the toner cartridge and check for any paper and remove it.

Make sure there is toner in the toner cartridge. Look at the lights on the printer. Look at the labels beside them. The label "Toner" will have two lines going to two lights. If those two lights are on when you try to print, you are out of toner. But a now toner and install it in the drum. Install the drum back into the printer.

If not, look at the drum. At the rear top is an opening across the whole drum. Look inside it, you will see a metal grid. That grid must be clean or it will cause small sparks. These sparks will cause a false toner empty error. Buy a can of compressed air from Best Buy (or wherever). Use this compressed air to blow clean the grid. Move the small blue tab at one side of the opening ti the other side and back again. Reinstall the drum and try printing again.

If neither of those help, write back and let me know what lights stay on when the printer stops.
