Question about Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera

Alternative Charging Methods???

I have recently purchased the XTi from canon and I am wondering if there are any alternative charging methods to charge the removable battery? I used own the powershot G3, which had a removable battery pack also, so you could either remove the battery and use a wall outlet, or use the cable that came with it and charge the battery without removing it from the camera. Does the XTi have this capability/jack or am I out of luck??
thank

Your out of luck. This method of charging is considered (nowadays) unprofessional. Thats why you rarely see manufactures such as Canon/Sony/Nikon (the big 3) use this - and company's like Kodak will. Yes, it is convenient, BUT, battery chargers are prone to go out. They work very hard, and get very hot, adding stress to other components. There is no such thing as a bullet proof charger. Many (quality) manufactures know this and avoid this added hassle. See, if the charger goes out then it's likely to disable the rest of the camera and it's not worth the risk.

NI-MH D 14.4V 8000mAh Charger Hack. I need an alternative charger like charging on a car battery?

NI-MH batteries a re very different than car batteries and even tho voltage may be similar, you risk destroying your battery, camera or worse, an explosion. Your batter may only need a limited amount of amperage to charge (likely not much more than 1500ma or 1.5 amp) a car battery charger may put out twice or even ten times that much - hence the explosion risk! Also these kind of chargers detect when your battery is full and will quit charging or switch to a maintenance mode. I'm afraid you're pretty much stuck with using the charger meant for it.

Alternative battery charging

you cannot use any charger that is not used to charge ni-mh batteries car batteries charge at a rate of 5 amps minimum and if you do it will cause serious damage to the charger and batteries
if you want ideas , talk to a battery shop but unless it is designed to charge 14.4 volt ni-mh batteries-- forget it

I have a Canon Rebel XTI and it was working fine until one day it just decided not to turn back on. Tried charging both batteries multiple times and upon putting them in, it still will not turn on. Am I...

Sorry to hear about this. I have a similar camera and have been racking my brain about this...

My only thought...are you using the same battery charger? Perhaps the battery charger is to blame. You may be out of battery on both batteries. When you install the battery, does ANYTHING happen? Does it say, LOW Battery or CHANGE the battery? Or is it totally black? If nothing happens at all, you should probably contact Canon directly. Or purchase a new charger and see if that fixes the problem.

My battery charger for Casio EX-Z1080 isn't working anymore. I'm wondering if I could use the computer to charge its battery or is there any other alternative? Please, I badly need your answers. Thanks so...

You can use your computer USB post but it has to be USB 2.0 compatible or else it wont charge. you can also purchase a usb wall plug because most standard USB devices usually have an output of 5v. This is a lot better since you wont have to walk around with a computer or laptop to charge your camera, lol Radio Shack around ten bucks.

Can CF card pin be repaired on a Canon Rebel? Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 17-85mm Lens

I assume you mean one of the pins inside the camera body itself? This is quite a common problem and I believe it will have to be dealt with by a Canon Repair Centre. However it is not the end of the camera and is worth having done although I cannot say what the are charging at this time.

It's likely your charger. You probably own a "fast charger" but it's also probably designed for your lower mAh power batteries. The charger does not understand the power difference of your newer high-capacity battery, thus it is automatically stopping the charge before completion sensing something is wrong. You'll need to either purchase a newer charger, clearly stated capable of charging 3000mAh batteries. An alternative is to use an older "trickle" charger (one of those that charges at very low power slowly overnight). These don't automatically turn off when the battery reaches full charge, thus will charge your battery.

Canon 400d new batteries installed but will still not turn on.

Might seem obvious but check that the green light on the charging unit showed that the battery was fully charged before you put it in the camera. Make sure that the memory card is fully seated in the slot. If ok then either the charger is not charging or the on/off switch is faulty.

Camera stays on

this sounds like a systemic problem. (responding to 3 different inquiries with similar complaints)
the light stays on when writing to mem to warn/prevent you from losing images which happens from premature power down actions.
in this case you have signs that the mother boards are bad. call canon for advice, but i am sure they will instruct you to ship them for service. aside from damaging your camera, it does not sound like a user interaction issue.
good luck
