Question about Sharp AL-1655CS Laser Printer
Make a noise then said "system error [L1-00]; REFER TO USER GUIDE
L1 is an indication that the lamp carriage is not leaving the home position.
See if there is binding in the lamp, You can remove the glass WITH THE POWER REMOVED !!!! UNPLUG IT FIRST !!!!!!!!!!!
try and move the lamp by hand. Move it to the middle of the of the machine and see if it hits the sensor returning.
If it does, simply bend the bracket to allow the lamp to return to the left freely.
If it doesn't move, the lamp motor blew a fuse and needes replaced.

I had the same problem. I called Sharp Technical Support at 1 (630) 378-3590. They explained that [L1-00] with a grinding noise means that the scanner bar is stuck. They walked me through the clearing procedure over the phone using only the keypad. It took about 2 minutes and everything looks good now. Although the machine is out of warranty, their assistance was free. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Make sure the clear lock is unlocked where the paper comes out when copying.

Ensure that not to much paper is stacked on top of the printer.... Stacked paper after long print runs and this gave the same message..

We had this problem when the power was fluctuating in our building. I called Sharp and they told me to clear this condition with the following code: #*C* and when the screen shows 00-00 enter 14 and press the green copy buton. This worked on the AL-1655CS. On the AL-1631 we had to do a similar thing: C<auto>C<auto> 14 <copy>

When [L1-00] appears, the scan head
locking switch is locked. Turn off the
power, release the scan head locking
switch, and turn the power back on.
If this don't work, turn off the power
and wait 10 seconds to reset.
