Question about Toshiba 120GB USB 2.0 Portable External 120 GB Hard Drive

Toshiba Hard Drive Crash

I bought my external Toshiba hard drive (160 GB) a few months ago, and it has been working fine until recently. I started receiving error messages saying "delayed writing error, windows could not save the files on this hard drive". I opened my drive from 'my computer' and found all my data deleted. I restarted my computer and after restarting, my computer is refusing to detect my hard drive, saying "unknown device". Is there any way to fix this problem?

Hi,
if the datas aleady deleted, then you have nothing to lose. Right ?
What you need is a 2.5 to 3.5 inch IDE ribbon cable connector.
this will enable you to put the drive into an IDE slot on the PC internal motherboard ( primary/secondary )
Unless it,s already 3.5"
boot the computer, see if it recognises the drive. And format it.
then you may be able, to re-fit back into the external casing, and use as an external again.

    Hi,

you may be able to get a 2.5 IDE Header to dual USB Connector. The Double Power Boost, can sometimes Kick the Drive Up. if you have problems, send it to me, and i,ll format it for you. ( Birmingham ) ( UK )

if your willing to pay the postage both ways, i,ll sort the drive for you.

    mike.

Does it give specific errors in Windows? Can you confirm that the HDD actually starts up (you should be able to even hear the disc spin up)? Any more details that you can give will be helpful.

I think I know which limit you have hit then. The maximum size for any single file on a FAT32 system is 2^32-1 bytes which is 1 byte less than 4GB (binary version of the number, not decimal) or 4,294,967,295 bytes.
