It sounds like you have a computer with an Active PFC (Power Factor Correction) Power Supply.
Back-UPS units, when running on battery power, output a Modulated / Stepped Sign Wave. Active PFC Power Supplies are NOT compatible with this pseudo-sign wave power, which is the reason it will not stay running.
You need a Smart-UPS unit, capable of delivering a true sign wave when on battery output.
I have the same problem with an apc smart-ups VS 650.
New batteries - charge in batteries is good (also tested under load).
When AC power fails, no power is supplied to PC connectors by the UPS.
UPS self test works fine. UPS does not report any problems via software - Power Management under Windows XP.

at_023057, Did you charge the NEW replacement battery prior to it's installation into the APC cabinet? Did you turn on the APC unit and let it charge the new battery overnight. Have you looked for any "open" fuses on the APC unit or tripped circuit breakers that will need to be reset? What was condition of old battery when you removed it??? If unit will not light up a 100 watt light bulb nice and bright, then I suspect you will need to ship it to APC for repair or trade in for new APC unit. How old was battery that you replaced? 12fixlouie
