Question about Toshiba Satellite M105 Notebook
For a few weeks I've been realizing my battery on my Satellite M105-s3004 hasn't been fully charging, and I've had to keep the computer on AC power. I thought at first I needed to possibly replace the battery. But then the computer wouldn't power up even with the AC adapter plugged in.
I first bought a universal battery still thinking the battery was the problem. The compatibility chart said my model was supported, but when I opened the package the tip it suggested didn't fit my power adapter.
I went out to return the battery and then decided I'd see about trying a new AC adapter instead. There aren't many options for laptop parts around here and I wanted to work on the weekend, so I purchased an igo wallpower 6500. While it didn't specifically say it supports the s3004, it said it supports some other m105 models. Not exatctly specific compatibility, but lo and behold one of the tips fits my computer and it's now powering on (haven't tried charging the battery yet -- running plugged into the wall and without it in).
Yeah, totally gambling with my laptop here, I know. What I want to find out is this. Could I be risking my laptop horribly? I'm thinking of just using this as a stop-gap measure and ordering a real replacement AC adapter from Toshiba (or another vendor) this week. Curious what the risks are, or, perhaps if it's unnecessary to order the replacement. There seems to be very little information about my particular model of laptop online.

if you look at the bottom of the laptop, you,ll see a voltage rated input. i.e 19v-3.1A or similar.
providing the plug fits, and the voltages are the same, you can,t do much damage to either battery or motherboard.
you can buy universal voltage packs now for laptops, which usually run from 15volts to 19-20 volts.
And several different connectors. for different models.
Of course the manufacturers want you to buy theres, and at thier top notch prices, but a replacements every bit as good. although may not be as superior quality.
check the voltage rated input underneath, if it,s the same.
