Question about Creative Labs Zen Touch MP3 Player

Player Not Connected

I've had my Zen V Plus for quite a while now, and other than occasional freezing I've had no problems. However, about a month ago both of my computers stopped recognizing it. I can still charge it, but the Media Explorer, sync manager and creative's website say that the device is not connected. Sync manager states that it is a Code 10 error, which means it's out of date, but updating the device doesn't seem to work.

I use Windows XP, and have tried several different USP cords, with the same result. My sister had a Zen Video and is having the exact same problem. Windows Media Player 11 has been uninstalled, with no change.

My computer no longer recognizes that there's music on my player. It will bring it up the Zen Touch, but it says that there isn't anything in it. I can still charge it with the AC adapter & play all the songs on it.

Exactly like you said i've had the occasional freezing and then my pc stopped recognizing the player with just no reason... Reinstalling all the apps and drivers didn't do a thing... Plus I removed the registry entries too and nothing solved the problem... Now it doesn't even install the drivers anymore... :(

Well, i finally got my Zen V Plus to work again. Actually twice. The first time I didn't understand what exactly fixed the problem but it was recognized just fine afterwards. Then, all of a sudden, it stopped again... This time i changed a bit of options in the computer and restarted. It was still not working. I deleted some registry entries and still nothing. I restarted, installed Windows Media Player 10 (which i hadn't installed) and not even it recognized the player. I gave up and uninstalled it again and restarted the computer as requested by windows. Then the player was being recognized again! I think I did that the first time too. Try it. If it didn't work either then it might be another thing I did in the registry involving permissions (although that would be weird because I'm an admin in my computer... Actually, i'm the only user)... Good Luck

I have a suggestion, but you are going to be disappointed. My friend had one of the zens, and after a while, his did the same thing and it turned out that the thing just failed to be read, after a few moments, we figured out that the player basically died, however, it would charge and play music that is already on the player. So, It is probably your player, and not your pc or usb cords.

Zen V Plus freezes only when certain tracks are played -

First place the Zen in the freezer to help the firmware to stiffen up. Once frozen place in microwave for 25 seconds. This will reset your device and all should be good.

Freezes on the 'Rebuilding...' screen.

The same thing happened too me about six months ago after about a year and a half of using my zen with min. problems. It would freeze on 'Rebuilding..' and then there was an endless cycle of reset but eventually it would Rebuild completely and all my music and information was fine. It seemed to be playing fine but if it froze I had to start the reset game all over again. Then the real problems started. There are a few load screens before you make it to the Rebuild and it started to freeze on that instead after awhile. I was actually revealed when I froze on 'rebuilding..' and made it that far.
If you can get it into recover mode and reboot it seems to have less problems freezing but that doesn't even work for me anymore. Then occasionally when it freezes it starts to vibrate terribly and make a horrible sound. Then it stops and flashes hard disk problems.
This all happened slowly too me. It really wasn't worth the time I put into it trying to fix it. My advice is to work on getting a new MP3 player. If you can get it past the 'rebuilding..' your going to have to play the reset game every time it freeze and it will probably freeze more often.

Creative zen v plus start up screen freezes when switching on

I had this same exact problem. To solve it I plugged into the computer (if computer doesnt read it its ok ) then pressed the reset button for about 5 seconds. you should see a screen . Then press the play and power buttons on at the same time and you should get a recovery screen. You have three options. from ther you can rebooot and automatically upgrade the firmware after its been downloaded from the creative website. Please let me know if this helped you and write me back if you have more questions. Thank you , lahuntress

Help frozen up zen vplus 4gb

I had the same repeating problem with my Zen V Plus 2GB. There is a tiny hole on the left side of the player, underneath the on/off switch. Stick a paperclip in there and press gently to reset your player. I lived for 6 months letting the battery wear itself out before I discovered this reset hole. I finally found the offending piece of music and deleted it from the player. I haven't had any problems with my Zen freezing since deleting that song. Pay attention to whether it always freezes on the same media, that might be the source of your problem.

Hope this helps!

I`ve had the same problem twice, it seems the player erases the whole firmware when this happens. You can fix this by plugging it to your computer in recovery mode, this will allow you to reinstall firmware.(Search google for zen nano plus recovery mode to find instructions.)

Zen V is dead
"If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
