Question about NEC MultiSync MT1030 Multimedia Projector

Strange shadows on NEC MT1030+ projector image

There are shadows that appear to the left of any given image from this NEC MultiSync MT1030+ projector.

Here is an example, I viewed this test image:

and took this picture:

Here is a zoomed in image:

You can clearly see that these "shadows" happen at about the same distance to the left of the actual image, and they occur regardless of color. So it does not seem to be a misalignment problem with one of the LCDs or prisms.

I did note that they don't really appear on an all white or all black background, but as you can see they are very visible on a gray background.

Watching a movie or playing a video game with this projector quickly causes a headache!

I have tried adjusting every image option available in the on-screen menu with no improvement.

If anyone could explain to me what might causing this (seems like some electronics problem most likely), I would greatly appreciate it. I know service manuals exist out there for the MT1030 but I have not been able to get my hands on one yet. If anyone could pass on information from one of these manuals or perhaps some electronic schematics I'm sure that would help put me on the right path.

Also note, I'm not afraid to pull this thing apart to fix it, I've already opened it up once to try and find any obvious problems and managed to put it back together with no extra problems afterward. I'm familiar with multimeter use as well.

Thanks!

-Mike

I am seeing Ghosting on the left side of the character, particularly noticable at the start of a string, as if the character was duplicated. All settings in the setup panels do not help.

Did anyone get a fix ??/

I have the same problem with three MT1030 Projectors - tried all of the adjustments that were suggested with no reasults - the only other thing that I can add is the projectors I have the problem with were run non-stop for long periods and with time developed this problem. Would be nice to know if there is a solution since I have an xtra bulb that I haven't even used yet.

    Hi there,
same problem with my multiSync GT2000. The manual does not give any further details. I also changed all of the settings systematically. No change! Obviously it is a hardware problem.

Did anybody change the lamp so far? Might this help?

I am very knowledgeable in TV and multimedia technologies. What it sounds like is a defect in the focus lens and projection assembly. Could be NEC made several of these units with faulty lenses. If you have a bad lens there is no setting change that will help. Take your projector to a TV specialist, and have it professionally fitted with higher quality lenses.

The projection assembly consists of the internal LCD screen/projection laser, the lamp, and lens that displays the projected image on a wall.

Readjustment of the internal prisms (lighting mirrors), and lamp may be necessary. If the light path in the lens/ lamp conduit is out of alignment at all it will cause shadows, in the part of the lens not getting enough light. If these projectors get bumped, dropped or beat up at all, they can have all can kinds of alignment issues which no electronic setting can correct. This due to the shock it can cause on internal components. The only solution I know of is to have a professional take the machine apart, and mechanically align the entire projection assembly which will likely, permanently fix the issue.

In projector menu you will find a setting called 'keystone correction'. Use horizontal and vertical keystone correction to correct the projected image.

Picked up a NEC MT1030+ on a gov auction with NO REMOTE. Lamp hours have exceeded the 2100 and projector is shut down. With out remote, how do I get it back on?

Hello, Paul.

You don't need the remote to power on the projector. There are front panel controls that power on/off.

The problem is that you need to replace the lamp. The lamps cost $200 +, USD.

Hope this helps.

Lots of tiny dots all over the projection screen, all sources?

if they are shadowed and you can focus on them, it's dust. blow it out with canned air. if they are pixeled, you have bad lcd panels.
