so today i am attempting to get to the amp board by taking the receiver apart... I have been following the schematics but i realize that some "wiring" ie, the digital paper may need desoldering, is there an easy way of extrating this from the receiver

If you have knowledge about troubleshooting audio equipment, I would suggest to check the audio just before the It gets to the Amplifier ICs. In order to do this you should have the schematic diagram or the Amplifier ICs data sheet.

Check this site and ask them for a compatible service manual.

  • Jaime Hernandez Feb 25, 2008

Ask this guys if they can help you.

  • Jaime Hernandez Feb 25, 2008

If you have the receiver open, let me know what is the part number of the amplifier ICs. I will try to help you even with no schematic diagram.

  • Jaime Hernandez Feb 26, 2008

This guys seem to have the shematic diagram for your STR DE698.

  • Jaime Hernandez Feb 26, 2008

If the resistor is open you will not get any reading inside the circuit or outside.

Find the resistor in the schematic diagram and measure it in the circuit first, the value you get may not be exactly as in the schematic.

If the readings are way out of specs, I would suggest to remove the part and measure it again.

Check carefully because not all the connections maybe not joint by solder, rather some are connected using just a snap in type of connectors. be-careful when you disconnect those snap in connections because they can break easily.

Before you take it apart. I just need to ask you something:

Did you have the same set up working before this receiver failed?

I have lost video on my tv - connected via hdmi to denon avr-689 receiver.

Had a similar issue, replaced the receiver three times in first month. The fourth time it had to go back to Denon. They returned it saying no fault. Also replaced HDMI cables etc...real head scratcher. Turns out it was the tv. The system can get discombobulated if the receiver, tv and source are not sequenced correctly. This is due to the HDMI protocol, Power up sequence should be receiver, source tv. Once video is lost it has to be rest. With system powered up and tv displaying no signal, remove HDMI cable at tv. Turn off tv at outlet and leave of for 2 minutes (this rests HDMI port, important to leave off long enough!.). Turn tv on and reconnect HDMi...all should be good. Poor Denon, I blamed them when it was my Sony Braiva all along....bad Sony

Recvr produces no sound from speakers,is there a factory reset sequence i can do to get rid of all settings i have made?

Maybe there's a simpler fix. Examine every indicator on the front and understand what they mean.

Un-select anything to do with Tape or Muting. Disconnect the headphones. Properly select the input. DE-select EXT IN.

Tv/sat output on my reciever does not work

Make sure your audio input for TV/Sat is set to "Auto" If you have video passing to your TV from the receiver its a lot easire to navigate sony's GUI menu (main Menu) if not, run a basic video cable from the "monitor out" of the receiver to a video input on the TV. Then, using the sony remote press "menu" toggle thru the screens until you find "Audio" look for "input" then TV/Sat then set to "Auto"

I'm pulling this from memory, so if you still have an issue, please post a reply and I'll pull the manual and help you further.

No image/sound when sony ps3 is connected to onkyo 875

I've had problems with my Onkyo receiver too.

Firstly i suggest going into the Onkyo setup menu. Make sure that in "source settings" i think that's the menu option) that the input e.g. dvd is set to receive HDMI. then go into the settings for DVD and ensure that resolution is set to auto, then go into the monitor out settings (option 1 on main seyup menu) and make sure that main monitor out is set to HDMI and auto resolution.

hope this helps,

Main pcb for sony strde 897

PartStore (www.partstore.com) has parts for this receiver. The parts are usually backordered so they will take a few weeks to ship. As for a free service manual, I have searched the internet and could not locate one. Good luck.

Digital optical from DVD player produces no audio

Hi, It sounds like your receiver is still looking for audio on the coaxial connection, rather than the optical.

1. Make sure the optical connection is between your DVD player and the LD/DVD Optical In on the back of your receiver.
2. If you have a monitor connected to the receiver to show the on-screen display, click Setup from the main menu, click Input Mode, then, next to LD/DVD choose Optical. It may be set to coaxial, analog or auto.

Alternatively, choose the input source on the front of your receiver (LD/DVD), then press Input Mode button (bottom right, near the input selector) till it displays Digital Optical.

If all else fails, reset the receiver by:
1. Turn off the receiver
2. Hold down DISPLAY and PANEL UP/DOWN buttons and press power.
3. All Clear should appear on the screen.

Use caution, however, as this will erase all the settings in your receiver.
