  • starceb May 24, 2008

My husband just experienced the same thing... every button locked up except on/off. It will ring in for calls and answer when opened, otherwise it's useless. Did you ever find out a solution?

  • Anonymous May 27, 2008

Same problem, only receives calls and on/off work? If more then one of us has it, must be a reason... Battery out and restart not helping.

  • Anonymous Jun 11, 2008

Exactly the same problem. Started today. Seems like a new thing. I see most posts suggest a moisture problem.

  • elohem Jul 07, 2008

I have the same problem...it just started today. It powers up...and I can see the specs and the wallpaper...the only key that works is the power button. Removing the battery and sim card and replacing them numerous times has not fixed the issue. Help Please!!!

  • kelzdoll Jul 07, 2008

EXACTLY!!! and it happened at the worst time! does anyone have a solution for this? None of the keys work except the power, and occasionaly pressing the message inbox button will bring me to the "Ring styles" screen. Taking the battery out doesn't work, and it started very randomly. I didn't drop the phone or get it wet or anything!

  • ELi_B Jul 08, 2008

i have the exacty same thing. i cant find anything helpful anywhere on the web. i did remove battery, sim card and memory card, but nothing changed. the only button that works is the power button. its really angering.

  • jlin5522051 Jul 14, 2008

The same thing happens to me around 7/8. I did not drop the phone. Cannot answer nor call out using the key pad. But, I am about to use the bluetooth to answer and make voice dail. How can I download the phonebook in this case? Cannot do it witht the bluetooth connection. It will not connect to my Motolora Phone Tools.

Interesting that this happens recently to us. Any had this happen a few months ago?

  • dablakh0l Sep 29, 2008

Mine started about 2 weeks ago. I thought it might be a broken cable, like I had seen metioned in other forums. However, I noticed that without the SIM card in, when you hit the buttons, they show up on the screen momentarily, then you get the emergency dial only screen. Hmmm....that leads me to believe it's a software issue....

I originally purchased two Motorola razr v3c for my wife’s and my personal use in Feb 07, under 3 year contracts with our provider. My phone began giving me problems on its anniversary date (Feb 08). The phone would not impart a charge upon the battery despite trying other batteries, chargers, etc.

The phone was sent three seperate times to Motorola to fix the problem, ( Feb, Mar, Apr) It was frustrating and inconvenient enough that the first two times. The phone came back reportedly fixed, yet the same exact original problem persisted. Motorola finally agreed to replace the phone with refurbished phone on the third time.

In Sept 08, the refurbished phone began a new series of problems. It locks up upon opening with white screen, or black screen. The only indication that the phone is working is the keypad lights up. It is unusable as it exists.

The phone was never dropped, or hurt, and was always kept in a leather protective case.

Motorola have refused to do anything for me. It is now my wish to spread the word of discontentment with Motorola. I will be boycotting their products from now on.

  • jacpod Nov 11, 2008

This happened to my phone yesterday 11/11/2008 and judging by the posts here there are no solutions. I didn't drop it, get it wet, or anything else I can think of that may cause it to fail. Once I got it to the main menu but not again.

    HAS ANYONE GOT A SOLUTION?

  • Anonymous Nov 21, 2008

Same exact problem as of 11/18/2008. Took it to store they had no clue. never got it wet. Never dropped it. Can only answer calls. Unable to access phone numbers, text messages, voice mail.  Only button working is on/off and I can answer calls. That's it. At this point I will buy a new phone just need help with getting my text messages and phone numbers. Anyone can help with that? Thanks.

I've had the same problem with mine. BUT... I got it working again. I held the phone closed in my right hand, and while seated, slapped the phone pretty hard against my right thigh.

Taadaa!...It started working again. I don't know why. maybe the connectors get loose, and this jar is enough to reseat them. My daughter had the same problem with hers, and after the 3rd slap by her. her's started working again too.

I reported the problem to Motorola. Following is my reply to their support service via email. Looks like they don't even know their problem. I will keep this page posted on any progress.

    Reply to Motorola:

No sure some of this have any effect on the problem. It looks like
Motorola does not have a solution, thus all your irrelevant questions.
But here are the answers to your question. Please note that there are many users who have the same problem. See below links. It is not a single case on my phone. If not resolved, this may effect the reputation of Motorola. ie: Intel's floating point error a few years back. So, if you don't have the answer, please take it up to the next higher level.

    > * When was your phone purchased?

About two years ago. Please don't tell me that this is out of warranty.

    > * Where was your cellular phone purchased?

Irvine, California, USA. All Motorola should care about is that this is your product. (This should not matter to the problem at hand.)

    > * Has the phone ever been through any kind of physical or liquid damage?

No, It was working 20 minutes before and cannot work after that.

    > * Have you tried a Master Reset?

I think you are talking about the Master Rest via the menu key, but you forget that I have no function of any key except the power on/off
button. How else can I do a Master Reset??

    > * Has the phone been ever sent to our repair facilities?

No. (This should not matter to the problem at hand.)

    > * Which is the IMEI number of your cellular phone? (Press *#06# to view it
    > on the display or locate it on the back of the phone, under the battery)

The number is 358002007649662. (This should not matter to the problem at hand.)

Not sure which line of the label is the model number.

The problem is that one day, all the keys on the phone locks up, except the red (power on/off) key. I cannot make key pad to do dailing, scrolling phone book, andwer call,... I use the bluetooth device to make voice call and answer phone.

Can this problem be resolved, may be remotely or do I have to send it in or walk into a store? How much will it cost? Also, How can I transfer my phone book information, not in my simm card, out of the phone. I have a Motorola Phone Tools, but it cannot make connection.

Here is the final answer from Motorola. Not much help and no free generic support. Now a day, I think company does not care much about their service any more. Do any thing to make another buck.

I had my fixed once. When it returned, it still fail 3 out of 7 try. The 2nd time they fixed it for good, been used for 2 months now. So, power on/off can get the phone to work again, but if you have the problem get it fixed for good and verify the problem by power on/off a few times.

Did you drop your phone on the ground or in water? Because if you did it might of damaged the circuitry and you're going to have to get a new phone.

Side key lock

If yuor waranty is over, then you can just open the phone and remove the plastic slider. Then close the phone and use the stylus to operate the exposed key lock switch. This is the simplest way, i found. The plastic slider is very delicate and is very likey to break if you slide it very hard or after a few thousand times of lock/unlock operations. This is something Motorola should have thought about before designing it in. Like Nokia or HTC, they could just have put the screen lock control in the power switch/ phone on-hook switch itself.

MotorolaV3x locks up when accessing camera or camera menu

You could try opening the top part of your phone and unplug and replug the camera connector. unscrew and pop open the case. The wire for the camera is the wide one on the left. flip open the lock(brown plastic), take it out, put it back in and flip back the lock.  good luck!
