Hi thanks for the question. Most times a failure to ignite the igniter is caused by the thermal fuse located at the back, on the air duct . to repair, pull away from wall . remove back panel. clean all dirt , clean venting .the fuse is on the left, on the air vent, a small piece of plastic with 2 blue wires to it. replace thermal fuse. thanks the appliance doc

Tumbles but does not dry

When you put your wet cloths in the dryer close the door. You should then turn on the dry cycle you wish, not the fluff option as there will be only air and gas dryer will not heat the cloths. Wait 30 ~ seconds after the dryer is turned on and listen for the gas to ignite and begin warming and drying the cloths. If you hear no bump sound like the ignition of the gas, then you have an ignition issue. It will require replacing the ignitor. All the best and good luck. Hope this helped.

Dryer wont dry, blows cold air

Generally, with a gas dryer, there is an ignition device that heats to a specific temperature and this causes the gas to ignite. When this electric ignition fails to work, the gas will not ignite and there will be no heat. I had this happen and had to call a professional. It was a simple matter of installing a new ignition device and it worked perfectly for years. I hope this helps! If it is a new dryer, check to see if this part might be covered under warranty. I hope this helps. If it does, please let Fixya know by rating my solution. Good luck!

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.

Whirlpool gas dryer motor wont turn over

If the drum is not turning, then the belt may have broken and could be (because of the noise I think your describing, partially wrapped around the motor pulley.

Modern gas dryers do not have standing pilot lights. They are electronic ignition.

Chances are, you solve the belt problem, you'll solve the (I guess your having) heat problem.

Please respond with more detail of the problems you are having, and advise if the belt is broken.

DISCONNECT THE EXHAUST FROM THE BACK OF THE DRYER AND TRY DRYING ONE LOAD OF LAUNDRY. IF THE DRYER WORKS O.K. WITH THE EXHAUST DISCONNECTED, YOU HAVE A RESTRICTION IN THE EXHAUST DUCT SOMEWHERE.
