I speak from experience: changing the water pump on a Trailblazer yourself is very involved---much of the front fascia of the vehicle will have to be removed as there is almost no clearance. In cold climes, I would DEFINITELY have a leaking water pump repaired right away.

WAIT UNTIL YOUR ENGINE IS COLD,YOUR RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP IS LOCATED ON THE COOLANT OVER FLOW RESERVOIR, THATS WHERE YOU ADD COOLANT WHEN COOLANT LOW,YOU POUR COOLANT IN THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL REMAIN AT FULL COLD MARK DONT OVER FILL OVER FLOW RESERVOIR, WHEN COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING WHEN ADDING COOLANT AND COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT COLD MARK ON THE RESERVOIR YOU RADIATOR HAS THE CORRECT COOLANT LEVEL IF COOLANT LEVEL KEEP DROPPING CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND RADIATOR AND THE TOP AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSES, LOOK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP GASKET OR SEAL OR LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF YES REPLACE WATER PUMP.

I live in central ny Very cold here. My 99 Cherokee over heated guage warning came on and the cooled back down and overheated again. Resivoir was empty, I filled it and drove 40 miles and it was empty...

hi ,trust me you have a leak somewhere ,first fill the radiator/resiviour with water while your engine is running ,when its full and no more air bubbles are coming out ,put the cap on . now keep the jeep running for at least 30 minutes and every 5 minutes check underneath the engine for escaping water .you should spot the leak this way ,if not ,then your head gasket in your engine is probably leaking water into your exhaust and evaporating your water away without being seen ,this would require a large repair by a mechanic.

Our 2004 ford f350 is leaking real bad, its dumping the coolant(water) out just as fast as we put it in

Usually you can look at the engine and see where the water is staining the metal parts. It can be something extremely simple to fix like a heater hose.

Your radiator can leak and it has 2 main hoses. If the Radiator is dry, the hoses going to the engine are dry, then it is something attached to the motor. The water pump takes more effort to replace.

Autozone and Oreillys have tools to loan for a deposit. There is a Radiator pressure pump which can be used on a cold to warm engine. When you pressurize the system the leak will be easier to detect.

There are Radiator repair shops and Air Conditioning repair shops that both can do the job. Of course the Dealer has the ability to fix your truck too. Make sure you fix this before you ruin your motor.

Is there a way to know wheither its the water pump or a hose if you car is losing antifreeze? The car doesnt seem to be leaking when it is idle in the parking spot but when i come home frome a ride the...

it could easily be burning the antifreeze through a bad head gasket. if when warmed up the upper hose is quite stiff indicating the system is under pressureand you shut it off, even waiting until the radiator fan comes on and then right away turning of the key, wait and see iff anything runs out.the water pump would have to be looked at from below while the leak is ocuuring= reason must mechanics suffer a lot of burns. or with a sall extendable saft mirror. you could also loose antifreeze from a heater core leak but that would give a lot of steam on your windshield inside in the cold weather,or the carpet would be wet inside the car

Heater will not blow hot air while truck is idle. When truck is moving hot air blows. There is some clear redish leakage underneth the truck. How can I fix this problem?

You are low on coolant. Find the leak, the red is most likely the coolant.
Coolant comes in 2 colors red and green.
Your leak is probably either a hole in a hose or a faulty water pump. The water pump has a small hole, usually on the bottom, when the seal goes bad, it will leak there. The only fix is a new water pump.

If it is a hose, just replace it. Make sure when you fill it that you fill the radiator and the overflow, just filling the overflow could cause it to over heat.
Also, depending on your climate, you need to mix your anti-freeze with 30-50% water. If you live in a very cold climate, you want to go with 30%water-70%anti-freeze.
Make sure that you use the right anti-freeze. red with red, green with green. Some green ones are now compatible with the red, if you change the color, make sure it is compatible.

Hi, my CEL is on and I was told the OBD2 code: 1281. I found out that it means that "the engine stays cold for too long". Is this something that I need to get fixed? I seems like it might be a temperature...

it doesnt seem like something that is "catastrophic" at this time but it would not be a bad idea to have the t-stat changed before it stays closed. make sure the coolant mixture is in accordance with your "mild" outside temps right now. lol. this should correct the issue and this summer have the cooling system serviced again to get the mixture a little more mild for summer temps. if you keep this up, you will be ahead of your maintenance schedule and have a very pristine cooling system as well as keeping corrosion away from your head gaskets/s.

My trail blazer has something in the front end that is really growling. it started out just a slight noise, now it is really loud!! I don't feel anything like a wheel bearing being loose, just really loud.

Had the same problem in my 2004 Trailblazer. Finally figured out it was the air pump on the driver side right under the driver side floorboard. Took it off and it was full off water because of a design flow by Chevrolet. I took the pump off and emptied the water out and dried it out real good and the noise stopped. I re routed the intake for the pump away from the front of the truck and haven't heard the noise since.

04 trailblazer AC leaks

Rather than pay the dealer $350+ to fix this, I found the "L" shaped drain hose behind and interior to the front passenger tire (I let the car idle with the AC on and waited for a drip. On my back on groud I reached in and found the drain line and it came off i my hand and about 4 oz of water and some decayed matter floowed out. I reaced back in and found the hole to which the L line was attached. It was a rubber fitting on the end of a metal pipe. The fitting came off easily and then about 8 oz of water flowed out (carpet had been soaked for two days). I reattached the L drain line and noticed that inside the fitting was about 1/4 tsp of "mulch" - decayed leaves, pollen, etc. Reattacted the fitting and water now flows freely out the drain. And yes, its a very high humidity area - Houston, TX. And if you live anywhere near here you know about the intense yearly dispersion of Pine tree pollen. I thisnk that accelerates the blockage. Happen about every 2 years. (Third time for me. First two I let the dealer over charge me for this effort. BE SAFE WORKING UNDER YOUR CAR!

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer LS with strange noise.....

If it is making a noise in the belt area, have them check the water pump. These get loose water pump bearings that cause belt noise.

No power leaving the relay

Are you testing the relay when the engine is cold?
The air injection pump works for a very short period of time during initial cold engine start.

Once the exhaust stream is warm enough to support O2 sensor function, the pump shuts off and will not come on again until conditions are met.
Let me know.
