Unfortunately, most likely. Sounds like either the screen, or the actual sensor is dead. If when playing back the recordings on to your TV or computer you discover that they're still blank, then your camera is dead.
make sure you open the lens 90 degrees to the camcorder.normal operation of the cam will allow you to rotate the lcd to a maximum of 180 degrees and can eve close it with the lcd screen side facing out. you can try pressing the reset button.if it still won't work try removing the battery and unplugging it from the ac adaptor for at least a minute.if still doesn't work properly, issue could be with a bad ribbon inside the lcd that loses contact when you turn it clockwise.that of course would need replacement or repair.

Inside the door hinge area is a small switch that normally would turn off the viewfinder and turn on the LCD panel. THat switch could be defective or mechanically not being switched. WIthout opening up the unit, I can not tell specifically. This shouldbe a simple repair for any shop that repairs cameras.
