working on a northgate laptop for a friend. Windows will start up but i am getting the blue screen telling me to run "check dsk" but thats as far as i can get. replace hard drive from a know working laptop to see if it will boot up, no go. I try bootim from cd rom with os and keeping the message "non bootable cd" and i know the os cd is good. any help will be appreciateed.

- trying setting back to default settings and the same thing is happening.

- when it says chk dsk thats as far as i can go.no other options....

sounds like bios update error. can you access the bios?before the bue screen does it go through the splash screen? if so check bios and set back to default if you can.

- if you replaced the hdd from another laptop it may not work unless its the same kind of laptop. drivers and manufacturer settings wont be the same.if your getting a non boot able cd then the cd rom may have died. no other options when prompted to run disk check? wont run through disk check?
