Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Error 74 I have error 74, and it is not from the cables. I have ordered thermal paste, and I just need to purchase a trox screw driver set. I have watched the youtube video about cleaning off the thermal paste and my GPU. is anyone able to give me more detailed information about how to do the rest of these things? note: I called microsoft and they told me since my i didn't purchase a Warranty I would have to pay 100$ and some other "minor" fee, while waiting 4-6 weeks. I'm not interested in waiting 4-6 weeks and spending 100$ when thermal paste is 69 cents on ebay.

Hi,
If your sure that the error 74 ( is CPU Or GPU ) Overheating issues, then if your going to have a shot at it yourself. i,d advise investing in the best thermal-paste money can buy. Arctic-silver Or Better.
You should,nt have much problem, Clean off the existing ( patch or paste ) From the CPU and mating surface ( heatsink ) and use a small amount of thermal paste on the CPU when replacing. I,d also suggest checking and cleaning out any exhaust ducts on the blower unit, and de-dust the fan itself. just take your time, replace everything in reversal to dismantling, and you can,t go wrong.

How do I repair the E74 error on the xbox 360

E74 - This error is caused by a cold solder joint under the GPU, (H)ANA-chip or in between. Mostly it is one of the outer solder balls on the side facing the (H)ANA chip so a shim increases the chanced of success quite a bit. Can also be a component that is missing or damaged so look for missing parts near the GPU and the (H)ANA chip. Xbox 360 Error Codes Explained and How to Fix Them

Cose is 74

Disassemble the console. Reflow the GPU and the (H)ANA chips. Redo the thermal paste on the GPU. Some E74 errors can be stubborn and require more than one reflow.

Error E 74 is on display

The Graphics Processing Unit is not working. This requires the xbox 360 to be taken apart right to the motherboard. What has happened is the GPU thermal compound needs to be replaced. Best thing is to send it in for repair.

Power supply to xbox 360

2 red lights on part 1 and 3 indicate the the console is overheating, the most common problem is the thermal paste.

You need thermal paste or it will overheat instantly, using cheap thermal paste or not using enough thermal paste will also cause problems. Use good quality paste and apply enough to make contact. You don't want to use too much, but if you use too little it won't make good contact with the heatsinks.

If you've done this before then it shouldn't take too long, but if you haven't then just take your time. You don't want to put too much on at first so do it bit by bit.

If you're still getting this error after correcting with thermal paste then the only suggestion would be to contact Microsoft but then they might not take the 360 after you have already void any warranty by opening up the console.

360xbox one red bar flashing E-74

First check your AV cable. Unplug it, put it back in, turn back on. If that doesn't work, long story short, call support (18004myxbox).

Error explanation below:

E-74 - There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (error 102)

102 error - Error in the "Digital Backbone" (CPU/GPU/RAM), this is usually caused by a cold solder joint between the GPU and the mainboard.
There are two theories to fixing this one deals with the "X" clamps that hold down the chips. The other involves re-Heating the chips. DO NOT attempt either of these if your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under warranty return it to the store where it was purchased or call MS to have it replaced.

Error 74

E74 is an error that has two possibilities one is that your AV cable has gone bad. Swap it out and see if that fixs the issue.

If that doesnt work then you need to contact MS, your GPU / Scaler chip has gone bad and MS needs to replace it. There is no fix for this like there is for the red ring error. hope this helps
