On mine, pressing F8 while booting, gives me an option of, "Repair My PC".

You may want to download and run cCleaner, too. It'll remove all the **** that accumulates on your machine.

Have you Defragged your hard drive?

Hi, It sound like maybe there was a change in the configuration of your (Hardware); this could be due to updates, or downloads. Go to: Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound. Do the same for both, click Mouse or Pointer which ever your using; click Hardware, click Properties, Check status (working properly), click Driver; if the Update Driver box isn't grayed-out? click Update Driver. My letters and words will randomly go in different places

Have you checked the moue and keyboard settings see if there is something in the settings...one computer I would recommend to check the keyboard wiring but with two that would be quite a coincidence. If the mouse is chasing the cursor then its got to be a software issue..also run spyware software on both. Spyware captures keystrokes so could be affecting the keyboard pointer settings.

Go to acer website and download that model manual, make sure you have ADOBE READER on this machine..If your pointer is not working then you need to download the touchpad driver or if you are using a mouse then it may be a bad one.

Pointer problems

Try going to control panel, then under hardware and sound, click mouse, then you should see mouse properties. Click on 'Buttons" and be sure the "button configuration" is set for "Synaptics touchpad V.6.2 on PS2 port 3". Let me know if that doesn't do it. You may need to reinstall your Synaptics touchpad.

Acer Aspire 3004 - Random reboots; random mouse program select w/o mouse click

the rebooting could well be a driver error, and you pc is set to reboot instead of stopping and showing the code numbers on a blue screen togive any clues, but it sounds as if it could be the touchpad driver. Go to my computer icon, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for mice and other pointing devices and click the '+' sign and it will probably read synaptics touchpad, right click on it and select uninstal. Restart your notebook and the touchpad will be installed automatically and should, if the driver is not corrupt perform as normal.
