Dell INSPIRON 1300

I have been told by Dell that the mother board needs to be replaced on my Dell INSPIRON 1300 although I have heard that all I need is to have a small soldering job to solve my problem of my laptop not charging.
could this be the case and if so is it possible to DIY this job?

Assuming it's not under warranty or you wouldn't even consider this so here goes..

If it's not charging because of the connector on the motherboard has in some way become defective
which happens quite often. ( I have a Compaq with that very issue on my desk ) You can order
a NEW connector from various places on the internet at a cost of approx. $20-$30. There are also
listings for companies that specialize in that area that I am sure would be less expensive than getting
a whole new board from Dell ( Google search: Dell restoration & repair ) , at a cost between $40 + shipping
and $125 + shipping. Do the research to find reputable sources. ( check reviews ).

Hope this helps..

Oh you CAN do this yourself if your comfortable with board level electronics. Keep in mind you would be
dealing with micro technology ( very small solder points ). This is why I let you know the option of having
someone else do the repair. With that you'd get a warranty on the repair and have it done by someone
experienced in the matter at hand.

My dell inspiron 1300 laptop does not power on. There is no indication of power at all.

is it on battery or straight to the mains?

Try to run on battery. If it fails, remove the battery and connect the notebook to main power. See if it changes anything. If you have extra chargers, try them as well. This is to illiminate the causes of this problem.

If all these fail. Then there might be a problem with the components or worse the motherboard. Try One of the components may be shorting. Remove any connected peripherals and plug the battery or the mains again and see if it changes anything. If it doesn't, most likely a motherboard fault. You either have to replace the mother board or buy a new notebook.

hope this helps.

No power leds. My Ac adapter is new with the right voltage coming out. I have to keep on unplugging the power cord then the green light comes on my Dell Inspiron 1300....I took the Laptop apart and solder...

You will probably find, that the power Jack on the Mother Board has fractured the solder joint, this is a common problem. You may have to get it to a shop.

Bios when you start up

You need to remove the battery from the mother board. There is a small battery, like a watch battery, on the mother board, but it is not an easy task getting to it..

You'll probably need to download instructions for taking the laptop apart.

When you find the battery, remove it for an hour or so. Put it back in and reassemble. The password will be gone.

Dell inspiron 1300 back light problem

All laptops have a backlight and an inverter to power it, and the problem you have is very common. Usually replacing the inverter board in the display fixes the trouble. There are a number of vendors online offering replacement parts. Here is one that just popped up after a Google search. You can also find videos on youtube showing the procedure for opening up the display to install the new part. It's a simple process that most people can handle with a little patience and some small tools.

It's also possible the light itself has gone bad, but the inverter failure is more common. The backlight on some displays is not replaceable separately. So try the less expensive inverter replacement first.

Dell inspiron 1300 Video card upgrade

Sorry you cannot upgrade the graphics on your laptop according to the articles i looked up.
You should call DELL. I think the display card is part of the mother board on your computer. In this case, you cannot change it. In some models you can add some memory to the display card, but this may not make the card faster. Higher amounts of memory allows for more resolution and colours.

Will not power up

This could be a bad memory chip. Try taking out the memory, putting one or the other in and starting, then changing them out and starting. If it's not a battery or memory, then the problem will most likely be with the motherboard. You will need to take it in for a professional diagnostic in order to find out whether it's a replaceable component on the board or if you will need a new board.
