Please confirm your hooking is fine and try with good cable-make your volume master to minumum.and disconnect all speakers if the trouble goen you have a problem in your speaker and its cables.
if the problem remain the trouble will be in your system itself.and need to be fix in workshop.

Dvd does not load. surround sound works ok.

I had the same problem for months, then i tried this,1 take disc out,2 turn system to standby then off at mains for 30 seconds. back on,3 power up,4 wait until it says no disc,5 press enter on remote. (There will be no on-screen response.) 6. Press 8, 4, 2, 6, 9 on the remote. (There will be no on-screen response.) 7. Press enter on the remote. Player will automatically shut off. 8. Turn player on. 9. Turn off. 10. Turn player on then off again. 11. Player is now region-free.

i did all that and my system started to read discs again

I need to play videos in region 4

check internet for region free codes for your model, this is usually quite easy to set your system to not have any region restriction. so you can play dvd from all regions. I found this for your model.

1. Remove disc from tray.
2. Switch off player and unplug power cord.
3. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect power cord.
4. Turn on player with remote. Wait for player to finish loading and display 'no disc'.
5. Press enter on remote. (There will be no on-screen response.)
6. Press 8, 4, 2, 6, 9 on the remote. (There will be no on-screen response.)
7. Press enter on the remote. Player will automatically shut off.
8. Turn player on.
9. Turn off.
10. Turn player on then off again.
11. Player is now region-free.

It might work. try at your own risk.

The screen keeps flashing rear chk and the rear speakers are not making any sound.

I had the very same problem, and found that if you power up the receiver in DVD/CD mode, or tap the function button to display DVD/CB mode, the Wireless Rear Speaker AMP will automatically recognize and turn on the sound. This work around was not posted anywhere in the manual, just 1 of many workarounds I have had to put up with this system to work. Right now my fan went and it just keeps shutting down, I have had this system for about 15 months and very disappointed with the quality. My DVD player stopped working a few months ago, so now the system is rendered useless, not even sure it is worth fixing at this point since it is no longer under warrenty.

When I turn my unit on, it will turn itself off in a few second.

have you checked to see if any of your speakers are shorted out? the rt2870does have a self protection system in place such that if theres too much power being drawn from the system or if a short occurs it will shut off. or the switch that powers the sub may have gone bad so try disconnecting the sub and see if that helps. i have the same system and i had the same problem and i had to replace the onboard sub-woofer power switch.
