Scan and copy modes inop

After clearing a paper jam the Brother mfc-8860dn will operate in the scan or copy modes. Will receive fax but not send.

I am not sure I made myself clear on the problem I am experiencing. After I cleared a document jam from the ADF I no longer could scan, copy or send a fax. The blue light on the fax button remains on and I cannot select scan or copy. When I select scan or copy the lights do not go on the mode buttons and I receive a series of 3 beeps. I can print from my computer and receive a fax o.k. I read someplace on-line that a spring may be broken. If this is the case is it a repair that can be done by the user?

Hi,

I believe you have to configure the button by help of the control center. Start control center and click settings.

    Hi again,

The first thing i would say is try reseting your printer to the factory defaults.
Press shift and reset (condense) at the same time. The
printer will beep twice. Continue holding both buttons for about three
seconds until the printer beeps three times.

It may also be the spring problem and the only solution for that is to get it repaired.

You can try to unplug the power cord for 30 seconds and then plug it
back in. If the problem persists then you will need to have your
machine serviced at service center. The warranty for this
error is 2 years (Parts & Labor). To find the service center near
you please go to http://www.brother.ca/en/customer_care/s... , and from there you will be able to select an authorized service center nearest to you.

    Goodluck..

Try resetting the machine by unplugging it for an hour, and then start it back up. Next go to the menu, and reconfigure your fax settings.

Cant send nor receive faxes

dear sir, kindly follow the below instructions
Instructions
  1. Ensure that all cables are securely connected. First, make sure that the printer cable connecting your computer to your printer is connected securely. Then, make sure that the power cord is inserted into a wall outlet. Try your print job again after you have ensured that all cables are properly connected.

  2. Clear a paper jam if your printer is not responding or you are receiving a "Paper Jam" error message on your printer. To clear a jam, first open the rear output door by pushing down on the two levers on each side of the door. Opening the rear door simply makes it easier to clear a jam. Open the top cover on the front of the printer by pressing the release button on the right side of the printer. Locate the paper jam and use two hands to gently remove the paper jam. Try your print, scan, fax or copy job again.

  3. Clear stored or saved faxes if you are having trouble sending or receiving faxes. Old faxes may be stuck in the fax queue, which may be causing the printer to not respond. To remove stored faxes, press the "Menu" button on the printer and select "Fax Functions." Then select "Clear Saved Faxes." Wait for the queue to clear and try your fax job again.

  4. Remove paper from the automatic document feeder (ADF) input tray if your scan job is coming out crooked. The ADF input tray can only hold up to 50 sheets at a time. If there are more than 50 sheets in the input tray, the output may appear skewed. Try your scan job again after removing the paper.

  5. Adjust your computer monitor's display settings if your scanned image is not an accurate representation of the original image. This can be done in the "Control Panel" in Windows. Set the settings to the highest possible resolution and try your scan job again.

  6. Perform a power cycle on your printer if the previous steps were unsuccessful. To do this, turn off your printer, then unplug it from the wall. Wait a few minutes and plug the printer back in. Try your print, scan, fax or copy job again.

take care..thank you

Be sure to have a noise filter on the ADSL line so the line quality is good enough to send and receive faxes.

How do i clear the fax memory? i can only send a few pages at a time without the fax not working and i think it's because the memory is full

most fax machines will show receiving memory left or transmit memory left, if it showing receiving memory full make sure there are no paper jams and there is lots of paper in paper cassettes and it will start to print all the faxes in memory... if its transmit memory, you will need to clear those documents in memory to be sent, probably waiting in que....

Same problem. Only when i am scanning or faxing it does this.

The left side hinge may be broken, or the sensor flag where you insert documents can be broken or jammed.

Double sided copying

here is the manual p4 and p16 discuss the topic:
Duplex printing 1
The supplied printer driver supports duplex printing.
Guidelines for printing on both sides of the paper 1
If the paper is thin, it may wrinkle.
If paper is curled, turn over the stack, straighten it and then put it back in the paper tray or the Manual Feed
Slot.
If the paper is not feeding properly, it may be curled. Remove the paper, straighten it and turn over the
stack.
When you use the manual duplex function, it is possible that there may be paper jams or poor print quality.
If there is a paper jam, see Paper jams in the User’s Guide. If you have a print quality problem, see
Improving the print quality in the User’s Guide.
Manual duplex printing 1
The machine prints all the even-numbered pages on one side of the paper first. Then, the Windows® driver
instructs you (with a pop-up message) to reinsert the paper. Before reinserting the paper, straighten it well,
or you may get a paper jam. Very thin or thick paper is not recommended.
Simultaneous scanning, printing and faxing 1
Your machine can print from your computer while sending or receiving a fax in memory, or while scanning a
document into the computer. Fax sending will not be stopped during PC printing. However, when the machine
is copying or receiving a fax on paper, it pauses the PC printing operation, and then continues printing when
copying or fax receiving has finished.

 Manual Duplex
Check Manual Duplex. In this mode, the machine prints all the even numbered pages first. Then the
printer driver stops and shows the instructions required to re-install the paper. When you click OK the odd
numbered pages are printed. There are six types of manual duplex binding directions available for each
orientation.
 Booklet Printing
When you want to print a booklet, use this function. To make the booklet, fold the printed pages down the
middle.
 Binding Offset
If you check the Binding Offset option, you can also specify the offset for binding in inches or millimeters

My MFC 8860DN does not scan or copy but instead says please wait

Turn the machine off and hold menu while turning it on and keep holding it while the machine starts up. This should go into maint mode.

When it gets into maint mode you can try 99 to exit. This is like a soft reset. Hard reset is hitting 01 in maint mode and then 99 to exit.

Let me know if this is helpful.

My Brother 8860 DN does not copies, yet it can print . The menu screen only allows fax, not scan or copy.

This is commonly an issue with the Keypad PCB. We can get you pricing on parts if you want to try this as a repair. Does the machine beep 3 times when you hit the copy or scan keys?
