Re: Is there a way to get Brother MFC-240C to only use...
Theres a simple trick to cheat the machine. BUT you will definitly destroy the printhead when doing so for a longer periode!
You have to put some black adhesive tape around the middle part where you can see this black palstic flag inside the cart. This flag signals the printer that the cart is insert and later on when the ink is down to give the waring: near empty.
I do give you the advice to do another but saver cheating:
You can refill the cart with a mixture of 8 ml destill water and 3ml 85%-Glycerol (e. g. Glycerin alc. which can be bought at a drugstore for a few cents). Shake the mixture well (within the syringe) before refilling the cart. See pics here how to do so (LC1000): http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/brother.html#LC-1000 - Refill (brother has changed the construction of the carts! If you can see a plastic quad in the middle of the cart, you have to drill the hole just behind the air valve (white plastic looking out of the cart)

No Cartridge will show on the display if the machine cannot recognize one of the cartridge or one of the ink is empty. Try to unplug the mach from the power outlet then plug it back in after 10 seconds. If the display show "ink empty C" it means the cyan/blue needs to be replace. "ink empty M" it means the magenta/pink needs to be replace. "ink empty BK" it means that the black needs to replace.
Hope this helps. Rate if it works. Thanks
You need to have ink in all cartridges to print. You can put a small electrical tape over the little window on the cartridge to print with empty inks, but you risk an air bubble in the ink tubes. If you don't care about printing color at some time, just cover the window on empty carts.
ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!! These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.
I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.
I located a page on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com forum, which had plenty of details about similar issues.
Try the forum, there are alot of issues like yours. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.
Cyan is the "blue/green" ink cartridge which is required to print in full color. Some printers stop working when one or more ink cartridges is empty. Get a complete set for some savings and for the next cartridge that gets empty. Printers are cheap now, it's the ink that gets costly.
The color cartridges print text that appears black by mixing the three primary colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) to make composite black. To achieve a realistic black, large quantities of colored ink are used. Because black cartridges use much less ink to create a similar shade of black, they print more pages in black than the color cartridge.
If the color cartridges on the printer are next to empty, you will not be able to get perfect prints at all.
Please have the cartridges replaced to do the printing jobs again.
