There must be a way to retrieve data!!!

My zen works although it goes into recovery mode just about every time i turn it on. the music works fine and the photo folders can be seen but none of the files, it says they're empty! but when looking at the system information it says there are photos on the player.
when the vision m is connected it will charge and the player will say that its docked but the computer says that it is not conected

i really really really want to keep these photos. there must be a way to retrieve these photos without them being deleted during the recovery process
help!!

i have the exact same problem. i have no idea what's going on with my player, it was working perfectly. then, after chirstmas, it went about five weeks without a charge, and suddenly it stops working properly.

i can still listen to music, and when i plug it into any computer it starts to charge, but the computer does not recognise it and therefore i can't transfer any files. this is really annoying, as i want the music files stored on it. photos and videos, whose files are still there, and according to the player, still on it, are void. when i try to open the files, it just says folder empty.

i tried deleting and re-installing the creative software, no help. then i deleted and re-installed the player's firmware, and still no change. and the creative website is rubbish, as it says the 60gb is out of commission, so don't expect much help from them.

anyone made any progress? i really just want to retrieve my music files, then burn the player or smash it up with a sledge hammer.

I tried to run the recovery process but even that didn't work as it wont be recognised. so now it seems as though my player is completely useless..

my last player 'creative zen 20gb' lasted 3 years being dropped, flooded and well well used. this one?? 6 months and its just an expensive paper weight. let me use your sledge after please

my solution would be to find something that works like vinyls or cd's.. ive even got cassette tapes 40 years old that still work..

There is no way to run recovery and keep the files - backup the files first, if possible. keep them on your computer just in case the problem persists.

Creative zen v plus. when i turn on it says its in recovery mode thats all it will do i reformated it but it does not allow me to put music or anything else on it

Connect you player to your computer and use the recovery tool provided by creative labs.

Recovery tool: download here

You'll have to reflash te firmware with this tool.

When the firmware is lost on a zen or any other creative labs mp3 player, the mp3 player boots into recovery mode.

Note when doing this, all data on the mp3 player can get lost.

My zen touch is frozen. I can push the reset button. It then rebuilds the library and goes to play the same song ever time but does not due anything. It remains frozen and non of the buttons work. John

Since the reset does not work using the reset hole, then try this: First, back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and disconnect it from the computer. Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!

Blank Screen

You tried getting to recovery mode by pushing the play and power buttons at the same time while pressing a pin into the tiny reset hole on the bottom of the player? If not, do that and run "clean-up". It might be able to fix the software for you.

Mp3 player won't connect to PC

These problems sound to me like its time to format your hard drive. To format the hard drive, put your Zen into Recovery Mode. Put a paperclip in the reset hole and hold the on/off button in the "on" position. Then release the paperclip and continue to hold the on button until you see the screen change to Recovery Mode.

Select the Format option, then Reboot. If your Zen still isn't recognized by your computer, this likely means there is a chip failure on the motherboard. Click here for more troubleshooting advice.

Stuck in recovery mode--would love to avoid buying a new mp3

I had the same problem as your and it stopped working yesterday. After search for helps and now it is working again after I reloaded the firmware. But unfortunately everything is gone. You have to reload your musics again. You can try this out: 1) go to creative labs website to download the "Recovery Tool". 2) at Recovery Mode of your zen there are options: Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware, and Reboot. Try out Clean Up first if it still not working then try to Format All. After that try the Reload Firmware. After you done the Reload Firmware. 3) Shut down your Zen and try to connect it to your computer. Now your Zen will automaticlly power On and computer will recognize it as a drive. 4) Open the Recovery Tool you have downloaded at creative labs website. This tool will detect your Zen and follow it's instructions: It works with my windows Vista. Well, it works for me, I think it will work for your too. Good Luck!
May God bless.

Zen frozen on one screen even after I've restarted it.

hard drive sounds bad. has it been dropped?
try to do a cleanup
  1. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off.
2. Connect the power supply to the player.
3. Hold down the Play/Pause button while inserting a paper clip into the Reset hole
underneath your player, beside the data/power connector. Keep on holding the
Play/Pause button while you release the Reset button. The Rescue Mode screen will
then appear.
4. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button

It will display the following options.
Clean Up Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All) Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.
