Question about Garmin StreetPilot 2610 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Garmin 2610 When I am trying to use the touch screen. I have to touch the screen about 1/2" to the right to get the right letter. I tried to calibrate the screen but it fails every time I calibrate it. Is there anything I can do with out sending the unit back. Maybe a reset but I don't know how Thanks

I have the same problem, called garmin today and they reccommend that I overwrite the firmware, I also get the same problem when trying to input an adddress, touch letter A and C gets selected, I've tried to re-cal but no luck.

Back up the unit then do a master reset.
Switch OFF, Press Page + Menu and turn on, holding the buttons for 5 seconds.
Then recalibrate. I did the recalibrate a few times before it was OK. If you use a stylus when the cross appears and hold it on the screen and move it to the corners you can see the error. Make a mental note and go halfway between the two if it does not calibrate at first go. Then when it calibrates, do it again. I recalibrate every now and again. I think it could be a firmware problem. I will try going from 4.8 to an old version

It happened to mine too. The solution is simple and it's built into the unit.

    Select menu.
    Select display.
You will find a note saying press find to calibrate touch screen.
Press that and follow the steps.
    Problem solved in a minute.

Thanks very much for the information. I had replaced the 2610 with a new Garmin unit in the car. As I have just got a motorbike I decided that it would be good for off road use. To my surprise I found your post and it fixed the issue with the screen, fantastic

I cannot program anything into directions because the screen does not bring up the number or letter when you touch it, it brings up the letter/number to the left of it. You cannot get the numbers/letters...

The problem is the screen needs to be calibrated, however this sometimes doesn't work if the touch screen is failing. I saw a lengthy procedure posted here in a different solution I have yet to try. But for the calibration you will go to menu - > display -> press FIND and follow the directions on screen. If calibration fails repeat, or find the other lengthy instructions here and try those. Several people claim they have worked, again, I haven't tried them. Another option is to purchase a remote for the unit. I have one and use it for mine because my screen totally failed. I have since replaced the screen with a junk unit I purchased on EBay but prefer the remote over the touch screen for most things. Remotes are about $30 bucks. If you're lucky you might be able to find a 2610 that includes a remote for around $50 and pick up an extra set of accessories. Good luck and post back if you have any other questions.

It is not aligned with the keys or letter or icons

Try a screen calibration. To recalibrate your c-Series touch screen follow these steps:

1. Begin with the unit turned OFF and unplugged from a power source.
2. Power the unit ON, continue to hold the Power button for 1 minute.
3. A screen will display instructing you to Press dot in the lower left corner.
4. Release the Power button and touch the sequence of dots until your unit displays, Calibration complete.
5. Your unit should now function normally.

Have you tried using the screen calibration command? Press the Wrench symbol, then the Display symbol and then Calibrate screen. Press the dots as it tells you to and you should now have a calibrated touchscreen.
