My N3290 is running at 497 Mhz, has XP installed and runs reasonably well with 256MB. Only problem I've had is broken hinges which HP can't supply. No big surprise there with HP's lousy support.

Without the model number I can't be sure but I saw some sings that it might have a 400Mhz prosessor or around that range.

If you get the laptop working with 98 or 2000. I wouldnt recommend xp unless it has more than 128MB of ram. Im pretty sure it doesnt have that much.

So I would certanly stick to 98 or windows 2000. They both should fit and work much better than xp.

Unless you find the model number this is all the help I can offer :)

Forgot to say, If you get the laptop working with 98 or 2000 it would probably be worth 50 to 150 usd.

It's a fairly old system, that came installed with Windows 98. Considering it's 2008....yes I would say it's an old computer. That doesn't mean it won't work.
It will be hard to find adapters to work with that system since Microsoft discontinued Windows 98 a few years ago, and all the support for that OS.
You may want to make sure there is enough hard drive space, as well as RAM...and if you do have enough oomph, then format and install Windows XP Home or Pro.

HP G7-2022US laptop will not charge.

Hello,

There are three possible parts in your computer which causing this problem.

1. Defective Ac Adapter
2. Defective BAttery
3. Defective Motherboard

What you need to do is to is isolate the part which causing the problem. Here's what you need to do.

Remove the battery and use the ac adapter only to power up your computer. Make sure to check that you can see any sign of power in the laptop like lights or anything like that. If the ac adapter does not power up the computer, then you need to replace the ac adapter or check the port for any signs of damages.

I hope this helps!

My hp dv9000 turns on and shuts right back off. what might the problem be???

That symptom sounds like one of two things. The first one is a lack of power. Which I am sure you have already checked. The second one sounds like a bad system board. How old is your laptop? I would check with HP support on Chat to see if they will help you if it is a bad system board. They have been doing many repairs on system boards, even if the computer is out of warranty by several months. It's worth a try.

Dark Screen

The video card in a laptop is a built in device, it isn't replaceable as in the case with PC workstations. Well, anything is replaceable. You would need to replace the motherboard would be my best guess, but that may not be cost effective, depending on the age of your system.

Good luck.

HP Pavillion dv4000 cto won't start

Hey,

if the computer doesn't beep at all, and noting comes on the screen.

Lets do this first,
Remote the ram from the computer, start up without ram.
turn the laptop off and unplug, did you hear beeps?

Place the other memory module back in and try starting up.
if the computer starts up then all is ok you can plug in the other ram and start up again. if it doesn't start up then repeat the previous process.

if this has no effect and you don't get any beeps from the computer the motherboard most likely has a problem.

I would suggest you call hp or your dealer to check your warranty.
If you are outside of warranty the repairs will cost you.

Discuss repairs with hp and see if its worth it.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

Forgot all passwords, windows and bios

Disconnect the power supply, remove the battery, then locate and remove the BIOS battery for a minute or so. That should Flash/Reset the BIOS to no password.

There is a known problem and being out of warranty isn't the end of it. You may be able to get them to fix it or try this yourself.

There are Vista and XP versions of the installers and the drivers and the bios is different depending on whether you have an AMD or an Intel processor, so be careful which items you attempt. Good luck.

On mine, I had to update the bios, uninstal the old hp wireless assistant and uninstall the wireless driver from My Computer (right mouse click) Properties - Device Manager - Network Adapters, then I installed the latest HP wireless assistant from above page and the latest Intel wireless adapter from above. Check the position of your wireless switch on the front lip of the laptop. One way should make the light go blue, for on, the other shows amber for off. If you are in the bad state pre fix, both positions will show amber. HP assistant will show the device is disabled, but you won't be able to do anything for it as there will likely be yellow tags on all the network adapters.
Mine works now, but I'm having other issues with installing SP1 for Vista. Anyway, hope this helps
