That takes some patience and precision..is it the type with a two part bezel or a single center snap in ?

    ahah..that gets a little tricky.

i use small needle nose, and a slender blade screwdriver. MOST important thing is to NOT bend the little ears at the ends, since when those snap, it's all over.

try that GENTLY, and then see if you feel lucky today. Well, do you?

    later.

Some keys on keyboard not working on my acer aspire 5253-B2692

Im going to assume you didn't spill anything on the keyboard here...The best solution for you is to take the keyboard out and reseat the ribbon cable that holds it in place. Sometimes those cables get just a little bit loose, but a little can cause a lot of trouble as you can see. Let's see how much trouble...open "notepad" or some other writing program you have....type every single letter and number and see which ones you are missing. Let me know if there are any others that don't work....then we'll go through the process of taking the keyboard out and reseating it.

I was cleaning my laptop keyboard and accidentally popped off the 'N' key, I'm pretty sure the brackets are still intact, but I don't know how to reattach it, could you explain how please?

Hello and welcome to FixYa,

Carefully remove the cap from any other working key so the key retainer stays connected to the keyboard.
keyboard-key-repair-2.jpg Take a closer look at the key retainer, it's connected to the keyboard at four different points.keyboard-key-repair-3.jpg Assemble the disconnected retainer the same way as one on the keyboard and put it back in place.keyboard-key-repair-4.jpg Put the key cap on the retainer and snap the cap back in place.keyboard-key-repair-5.jpg

It is that simple! They should just 'snap' right back on!

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

Need to reattach the W key on my Fujitsu Lifebook P7230

You may have broken a plastic "hinge", more like a tab or clip. Try taking it off again and examine the underside of the key. If it looks ok, try putting it back on. If a plastic tab/clip is broken on the left side, you should be able to go to a small computer repair shop and get a replacement key for it. That way you don't have to replace the keyboard.

Gateway m-7301u 15.4 widescreen keyboard problem

The keyboard would need to be replaced because once the plastic tactiles are messed around with they loose there shape plus the metal pieces that the plastic tactiles stay on get bent as well which means the keys won't stay on as well and stay looser then normal, thats why its suggested to get a new keyboard.

Tab key hanging loosely unable to use

I take it that the TAB key has come loose from the keyboard. Usually when the keys come off a laptop keyboard, they can be clipped back into place. However, the keys usually have a scissor like support on the underside of the key, which have small plastic pins that need to be latched onto the keyboard itself.

To be honest they are a pain to reattach, so if you have the patience and a steady hand, give it a go, otherwise I would get a repair tech/engineer to look at it. It may be that the key is damaged, in which case you will more than likely need to replace the keyboard, as key caps don't usually get sold separately.

im afraid not, unless you can pull the key (im assuming its just the key) from another keyboard. note that you can change the display settins (in XP) through the desktop settings

Keyboard

I had the same issue, I oredered another keyboard from E-bay and it was $20 and if you look up the installation instructions it takes 2 minutes to install.

Trying to put the keys back on will give you a heart attack!! The new keyboard that you will get allows them to snap back on with no effort.

I have to small children so I should know.
