Question about Yamaha HTR-5830 Receiver

No Audio thru Optical input

We just changed over to a new television provider - ATT UVerse and hooked up the "cable box" to the receiver with Optical cable but cannot get sound.

I have the same problem. I've got a HD PVR & PS3 hooked to my LG TV via HDMI. I connect the TV to my HDR-5830 receiver via digital optical cable. I have been unable to get any audio from my receiver from either the PS3 (BluRay DVDs) or from my PVR (HD channels). My HDR-5830 indicates that it detects PCM on the DTV/CBL optical input but no sound is output to my 5.1 speakers. I have performed a test on the speakers and everything checks out.

I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be most welcome. I'm at the point when I believe there is a problem with my HDR-5830 receiver.

If its a PS3 please realize that you adjust the sound options using the sound option menu on the ps3, so its possible that you have the PS3 set to RCA cable and not the HDMI therefore the optical cable isnt getting any sound from the TV

Just need to know how to hook up to tv to get sound

If you don't have a cable box or satellite receiver, you will use the "Audio Out" or "Monitor Out" from the TV to any audio input on the receiver. It's just a standard RCA cable or if you have an "Optical input" on the receiver, use that. If you are using a cable box or sat, the audio would come from the cable/sat receiver by standard RCA, Optical, or Digital Coaxial, whichever your AV receiver will support. Hope this helps. If you need further help, post a comment and I can walk you thru it.

Att uverse receiver hooked up to sharp aquos tv, remote quits

first try new batteries and be sure you have pressed the AT&T mode button at the top left of the remote - if you still have issues then on the sharp tv menu - turn off any energy saver mode, Optical Picture Control, taking the picture mode from dynamic or vivid to standard, and if that doesn't work - try changing the backlight settings if your tv has one.

Kenwood vr-405 receiver

I have the 405 as well. My TV has an optical out and I run that straight to the 405 optical input. I set the input selector to DVD/CD (not DVD)and presto! TV audio out my speakers. It all comes down to the audio connections on your TV.

Att uverse sound quality.

The link above is how I fixed mine, because I love the way the functions of Uverse works. Here is the problem HDMI and Optical Dolby 5.1 are delivered in digital packets. The DVR at about 48000. These newer HDMI TV and surround sound receivers are processing the sound packets faster than the DVR can deliver it, and hence, when the TV speakers, (HDMI Source) or surround sound receiver optical source, run out of packets or only get 47999 packets from the DVR instead of 48000, there is a momentary drop out. This is either bad chipset in the DVR, or a sync problem with the software. Dish, Direct TV, and almost all of the cable companies have also had this problem. I had dish, and not only would the sound drop out on the HDMI, but I had to turn off the TV and turn it back on to get sound back. It took Dish about 2 years to fix this. Me I am going to ride it out, because I love the way the Uverse features work, and the honesty of the techs that mad my home visits. They told me that they were working on a software push and shooting for August 2010 to fix this. I am going to write ATT Corporate offices by certified mail RRR, and show them what I had to do to fix their false advertisement, and see if they will credit all or some of the cost of this scaler back to me. In the meantime, if you're not using anything but the TV, set your digital audio on the Uverse DVR off of surround back to stereo, and the dropouts will stop, or buy the scaler. It is an excellent workaround, and it also up converts the DVR's 1080 i signal to clean clear and crisp 1080 p, something ATT will never do. It will also convert the component stereo out into dolby digital sound to the HDMI and optical ins on your TV and receiver. THAT IS THE ONLY SOLUTION I HAVE.
